In the chaos of the daily, the years slip by. With each year,
each graduation, the house grows quieter.
So I will soak in the time summer gives…
the untidy room,
the revolving door of girls coming and going. The constant
search for phone chargers, the garage door opening before the sun rises as she heads off to work.
Even the partially done laundry that I finish and fold with the hope only a mother has that it will find its way to a drawer or a hanger.
As I try to be acutely aware of KK’s presence in our home this summer, I rest in the comfort of knowing that when she leaves for Auburn, for a life she will create for herself; that God has set her boundaries in pleasant places. And I will fill the quiet she leaves behind with prayer.
Prayers of gratitude for the gift of her. Prayers for the strength to hold her loosely,
trusting that our love makes her brave.
That God’s perfect love makes her wise.
And that the love of Jesus continues to lead her life. Prayers that she continues to be salt & light, and knows that her dad and I will always marvel at the extraordinary gift of her.
“God’s mercies are new every morning …. so in everything you do, work with all of your heart for the Lord.”
