I am Adina Silvestri EdD, LPC and I am a licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia, working with children and families. teaching aspiring counselors the skills needed to become empathetic, creative counselors. In addition to my clinical work and teaching, I take an active role in the community. Less than 24 hours ago, I was singing along to Tim McGraw in Virginia Beach. This morning, I had the privilege of hosting NAWBO Richmond's Coffee & Connect at Life Cycles Counseling.

If I looked a little tired this morning...it was well earned. 😊

If you know me, you know traditional networking has never really been my thing. I'd much rather have one meaningful conversation than collect a stack of business cards.

That's one of the reasons I was excited (and admittedly a little nervous) to host today's event. My hope was simply to create a welcoming space where entrepreneurs and professionals could slow down, enjoy a cup of coffee, and make genuine connections.

Thank you to NAWBO Richmond for the opportunity, Panera Bread for helping keep everyone fueled, and everyone who spent part of their Friday morning with us. It was such a pleasure opening my office and meeting so many wonderful people.

Here's to supporting one another and building community—one conversation at a time. ☕

Apparently, attending a LinkedIn strategy event is a great way to learn all the things I should be doing on LinkedIn…but don't. 😂

Even better? Meeting some awesome women and running into familiar faces like Nadia from Lavender Hill—a beautiful woman-owned gathering and coworking space here in Richmond. 💚

A good afternoon of learning, connecting, and remembering that social media might get us in the room—but the real magic is still in the relationships we build there.

Writing Bravely™ is returning this September—this time as a four-hour, in-person experience in Richmond.

During our afternoon together, we’ll explore guided expressive writing, reflective storytelling, Inner Active Cards, small-group conversation, quiet reflection, and an optional nature walk.

You don’t need to call yourself a writer. You don’t have to share anything you write. You only need a little curiosity about what might be waiting beneath the polished version of your story.

Working on my business is always better with this one 😉

As a solopreneur, I genuinely look forward to our Friday co-working sessions. Not every week is wildly productive, but having someone to brainstorm with, celebrate wins, work through challenges, and simply share the entrepreneurial journey with makes all the difference.

We all cope.

In fact, coping is often what gets us through some of life's most difficult seasons.

The problem isn't coping.

The problem is when the strategies that once protected us begin keeping us stuck.

Healing isn't about becoming a different person or "fixing" yourself. It's about understanding the patterns that helped you survive, recognizing which ones still serve you, and gently letting go of the ones that no longer do.

Sometimes we need coping.

Sometimes we're ready for healing.

The key is knowing the difference.

One of the best investments I've made in my business hasn't been a marketing strategy.

It's been building genuine relationships with other professionals.

Some of my favorite collaborations, referrals, and friendships started with a simple conversation over coffee.

This is one of my favorite kinds of feedback because it speaks to something I care deeply about.

Beginning Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy can feel intimidating. Questions, uncertainty, and even nervousness are completely normal.

My goal is to create a space where you feel informed, supported, and cared for throughout the process.

Every person's experience is unique, but one thing I want people to know is this:
You don't have to walk into the unknown alone.

Some photos capture what we looked like. Others capture who we were becoming.

I almost didn't book this excursion in Puerto Rico.

Instead, I spent the day climbing, jumping, and chasing waterfalls, scrambling over rocks, and laughing with a group of strangers.

Looking back, I don't remember every conversation.

I remember the feeling.

Freedom.

Not because life was perfect, but because for a few hours I wasn't trying to manage everything. I wasn't thinking about work, responsibilities, or what came next.

I was simply present.

As a therapist, I've come to believe that healing isn't just about reducing anxiety or learning another coping skill. It's also about reconnecting with the parts of ourselves that feel curious, playful, courageous, and fully alive.

Sometimes healing looks less like fixing yourself...
..and more like remembering who you are beneath the stress, expectations, and endless to-do lists.

Sometimes, that version of you is waiting at the top of a waterfall.

I've been spending this week writing an encyclopedia chapter on group counseling.

The funny thing about writing is that it rarely stays on the page.

A client recently shared how difficult it was to be a beginner again while learning a new hobby. Even though they're incredibly accomplished, receiving feedback from an instructor really got under their skin.

It made me think about my own first counseling job after moving from Buffalo to Richmond.

Looking back, I don't remember the chaos nearly as much as I remember the pressure I put on myself to get it right.

Isn't it interesting how our minds work?

The event fades.

But the story we tell ourselves during the event often sticks around for years.

Maybe that's why writing has become such an important part of my own life—and why I continue to weave it into my work with clients.

Sometimes healing isn't about changing the past.

It's about changing the story we've been carrying about ourselves ever since.

Healing isn't always about getting through the week.

Sometimes it's about finally getting unstuck.

After what felt like a gazillion squats this morning, I grabbed a purple matcha lemonade (which was definitely earned 💜🍋) and met with Emma from Renfrew.

We spent time talking about something I wish more people knew:

Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all.

For some people, traditional weekly therapy is exactly what's needed. For others, approaches like Internal Family Systems (IFS), therapy intensives, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, or other experiential modalities can create the kind of movement that talk therapy alone hasn't.

The goal isn't to do therapy longer.

The goal is to find the approach that helps you move forward.

I'm always grateful for conversations with colleagues who are committed to helping people heal in ways that fit them—not just the treatment they've always been told they should try.

And yes...that matcha lemonade tasted every bit as good as it looks after leg day.
