Can we take our inner child offline to free up our adult selves?

Marriage and Communication Coaching promises:

Couples will uncover young, immature themes running subconsciously beneath awareness that distort our adult marriages and relationships.

We begin by asking,

What did you learn as a child about who you are, how you fit in, what you needed to do, believe, or act in order to get along, to belong, be accepted, loved, and feel safe?

Your inquiry would be something like, "I am. I am not. I have to be. I was expected to."

Answers to those questions will provide you with a snapshot of who you were and your experience as a young child.⁷

Infidelity, restoring broken trust, and seeking forgiveness.

Marriage and Communication coaching teaches us that forgiveness is insufficient to heal a broken relationship and restore trust in a marriage confronted by Infidelity.

As a marriage and communication coach, having guided over two thousand couples, this is what I have learned.

The following four sources of Infidelity:

1) Poor or incomplete communication and relationship skills set.

2) Lack of awareness of the Five Love Languages and speaking them.

3) Lack of awareness of the challenges and opportunities of differing personalities.

4) Undistinguished behavioral distortions, those interpretations developed in childhood and previous unsuccessful relationships.

Unless and until these relationship and communication deficits and challenges are met and addressed the Infidelity is likely to reoccur.

I invite any couple confronted by Infidelity and cheating to seek out a counselor or coach who will accompany you as you address those deficits and upgrade your relationship and communication skills.

Where to begin restoring, healing, and growing your marriage?

Marriage and Communication Coaching teaches us that the first place to start is by reading aloud, taking turns, the first nine chapters of the Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, and then taking the quiz.

Gary Chapman distinguishes that people feel loved in different ways, (The Five Love Languages).

There's one chapter devoted to each of the five love languages.

After you've become well-grounded in the distinctions he teaches, you may discover that you've been mis-loving one another - all while believing that you are!

It is essential to read aloud, taking turns.

By doing so, we're not educating our "me and I," we're educating our "We and Us." (that invisible presence that is greater than the sum of its parts).

Developing and growing our US is critical for the success of ANY relationship.

The bigger our Us the more there is for everybody.

It also answers the question as to "When is the best time to have a child?"

The answer is when our Us has grown large enough, there's more than enough room to bring a child into the world 🌎.

It's not about compatibility it's about responsibility.

It's not difficult when you know how to love one another.

After serving over 2000 couples I have learned that it's about learning how to communicate with mutual honor and respect, awareness of and speaking one another's love languages, awareness of the challenges and opportunities of differing personalities, distinguishing, and then overwriting and replacing behavioral distortions developed in childhood and from prior unsuccessful relationships.

It's not difficult when you know how.

Let me show you a more effective approach.

Me, You, We, or US?

Your partner asks,
"Is there something you would change about me?"

After coaching some 2000 couples the best answer is "There is nothing I would change about you."

"However, there are some things I invite us to look at about our US.

US.

Our relationship is an US.

Our US is far greater than the sum of its parts.

The greater our US the more WE are together.

(Notice the pronouns).

I invite "you and me" to shift our context from a relationship given by "me and you" to one given by US, together.

Our US answer ushers US into a productive, loving conversation, together.

Together, We get to look at the skills, insights, and best practices We have, or which We lack, together.

That is the correct answer to our partner's inquiry, one that provides the results WE desire for US.

How?
Get a coach or counselor who will accompany and guide the two of you as you:

Learn how to communicate with mutual honor and respect.

Learn one another's love languages and speak them.

Become aware of one another's personality types.

Become aware of the behavioral and perceptual distortions developed either during childhood or during failed prior unsuccessful relationships.

Then rewrite old behavioral codes replacing them with life affirming behavioral codes.

These steps will see you through the rest of your lives together.
