Celebrating Juneteenth ❤️🖤💚

Today, Saavi Services for the Blind honors Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality for all.

Juneteenth reminds us that independence, opportunity, and inclusion are values that should be accessible to everyone. We recognize the contributions, achievements, and rich history of the Black community and reaffirm our commitment to empowering individuals who are blind or visually impaired to live independently and thrive.

As we celebrate freedom and progress, we also acknowledge the importance of building communities where everyone belongs.

Happy Juneteenth from all of us at Saavi Services for the Blind!

🎣 Throwback Thursday 🎣

In honor of Go Fishing Day, we’re casting back to some of the wonderful fishing adventures our students at Saavi Services for the Blind have enjoyed the past couple of years!

Fishing is a great reminder that vision loss doesn’t limit outdoor recreation. With adaptive techniques, tactile cues, sound, and a little patience, blind individuals can bait hooks, cast lines, and reel in exciting catches.

From peaceful mornings by the water to celebrating the “big one” that didn’t get away, our students have created lasting memories, built confidence, and discovered that fishing is an activity everyone can enjoy.

Here’s to the laughter, the stories, and the many fish tales shared along the way. 🎣🐟☀️

🌟 Triumph Tuesday 🌟Congratulations to Chris on graduating from the ETS program at Saavi Services for the Blind! 🎓Chris’s journey is a wonderful example of determination, adaptability, and perseverance. 🎉 Triumph Tuesday 🎉

This week, we’re celebrating former SAAVI student Daniel, who returned to our Tucson center to speak with current students about his journey to becoming a successful real estate agent.

Daniel shared the dedication, persistence, and hard work it took to achieve his goal. He discussed the technology he uses every day to work independently, the blindness skills and training that helped prepare him for his career, and the challenges he overcame along the way.

Students had the opportunity to learn how the training and confidence-building skills gained through SAAVI can open doors to meaningful careers and greater independence. Daniel also talked about what he does now as a real estate agent, helping clients navigate the home buying and selling process while building a successful professional career.

Thank you, Daniel, for returning to inspire the next generation of SAAVI students. Your story is a powerful reminder that with determination, the right training, and a willingness to work hard, anything is possible.

Check out some of our students using shopping carts in the past when shopping for groceries to buy cleaning supplies for their house, when shopping for their intermediate and final meals and just when going through the grocery store with friends. Just because your blind doesn’t mean you stop shopping or stop using shopping carts. If you are curious how to use a shopping cart as a blind person be sure to contact us for services.
