The good news is that many falls can be prevented with a combination of simple home modifications, healthy habits, and proactive healthcare.

A few weeks ago, members of the Right at Home corporate team had the opportunity to volunteer with The Furniture Project - Omaha, where service took many forms. Some assembled toddler beds, some shopped for families in need, and others helped prepare incoming donations for their next home.

We also had the chance to connect with founder Drew Gerken, who shared the story behind the organization and the ways our missions intersect. His commitment to helping people live with dignity in their homes reflects the same values that inspire the work we do every day. We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside an organization making such a meaningful impact in our community.

Right at Home of Southern Arizona was at the 2026 News 4 Tucson Senior Fair at DoubleTree Reid Park! 💙

It was a great turnout and a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow professionals, meet new community partners, and strengthen relationships with organizations that serve older adults throughout Southern Arizona.

Events like these help us learn more about the resources available in our community and build connections that allow us to better serve older adults and their families.

Thank you to News 4 Tucson for bringing everyone together!

Checking in with an older loved one can tell you more than you might think.

Beyond asking, “How are you doing?” pay attention to how everyday life is going. Are meals still easy to prepare? Are they getting out and staying connected? Are they keeping up with medications and things around the house? Have you noticed any changes in their mobility?

These conversations don’t have to feel like a checklist. Sometimes spending a little time together and asking about their day is enough to notice when something has changed.

If everyday routines are becoming more difficult, it may be a sign that a little extra help at home could be beneficial.

📞 If you have questions about care for an older loved one, call Right at Home of Southern Arizona at 520.777.4175.

When communicating with someone living with dementia, correcting isn’t always helpful.

Instead of saying, “Don’t you remember?” or “I already told you,” focus on reassurance, patience, and meeting them where they are.

Correct less. Connect more.

We stand in appreciation of the traditions, resilience, and wisdom of Indigenous communities. Caregiving has long been embraced as a sacred duty in Indigenous cultures, rooted in deep respect and care for elders, children, and community. At Right at Home, we deeply admire and honor that legacy and remain committed to care that reflects dignity, connection, and cultural understanding. 🧡🌿

Staying active is an important part of maintaining independence, but changes in strength, balance, or mobility can make everyday activities more difficult.

During Bone and Joint Health National Action Week, we’re highlighting the importance of helping older adults continue moving safely and doing the things they enjoy.

At Right at Home, our caregivers can provide a helping hand with mobility, everyday activities, and getting around the home — while encouraging the people we serve to continue doing what they can for themselves.

The best way to combat ageism is to change how we think about aging.

Growing older is not about slowing down. It's about continuing to learn, connect, contribute, and find meaning in each new chapter. Today is Ageism Awareness Day; let's celebrate aging as a journey filled with purpose and possibility. 🧡

When Shalom Plotkin and his wife, Elise Braverman-Plotkin, returned to Cleveland in 2014, they did so with a personal mission. As Elise's father battled Parkinson's disease, the family experienced firsthand the importance of dependable, compassionate home care. They quickly realized how much of a difference the right support could make, not only for older adults but also for the loved ones caring for them. At the same time, they discovered there was no Right at Home serving Cleveland's east side. Inspired by their family's experience and a shared calling to help others, they opened their Right at Home office and began building a team dedicated to helping seniors live safely and independently wherever they call home.

Today, Right at Home Cleveland East and Right at Home Highland Heights offices proudly serve families throughout Cleveland's east side. For Shalom, whose background includes service as a military chaplain and counselor, the most rewarding moments are often the simplest: helping a client avoid a fall, stay on track with medications, enjoy a good meal, or simply have someone to talk with. He believes what truly sets their office apart is the strength of the relationships they build. Many caregivers and team members have been with the organization for years, providing the continuity, trust, and familiarity that clients and families value. Through ongoing training, caregiver support, and a culture that celebrates the people delivering care each day, Shalom and Elise have created a team focused on making a meaningful difference, one client, one caregiver, and one day at a time.
