Nomophobia is short for "no mobile phobia." This is defined as the psychological condition characterized by a fear of being without a mobile phone or the inability to use it. We are seeing more children, adolescents and adults attached to their phones.

This can lead to parental technoference, which causes habitual interruptions in parent-child interactions caused by a parent's use of electronic devices, especially smartphones, when technology interferes with real-time communication, bonding, or shared activities. High parental screen time is associated with conduct problems, symptoms of hyperactivity/inattention, and emotional issues among their children.

Lets remember that our children look to us to model behaviors and work to put down the phones more and interact with our children more.

Summer Sun Exposure Tips:

Keep babies younger than 6 months out of direct sunlight. Find shade using structures, umbrellas, or canopies.

Dress your children in cool, comfortable clothing that covers the body. Ideally these clothes should have a tight weave.

Wear a hat with an all-around 3-inch brim to shield the face, ears, and back of the neck.

Limit their sun exposure between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., when UV rays are strongest.

Have your children wear youth sized sunglasses with at least 99% UV protection.

Use sunscreen that says "broad-spectrum" on the label; that covers both UVB and UVA rays. Use a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 (up to SPF 50). An SPF of 15 or 30 should be fine for most people.

If possible, avoid the sunscreen ingredient oxybenzone because of concerns about mild hormonal properties.

For sensitive areas of the body (Ie nose, cheeks, ears) choose a sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
