What do these two patients have in common? 👀

Both were treated by Dr. Weyer for basal cell carcinoma on the nasal tip, one on the left and one on the right.

After Mohs surgery cleared the cancer, each surgical site was repaired using a bi-lobed flap. This type of reconstruction uses nearby skin to close the area while helping preserve the natural contour and shape of the nose.

Even when two skin cancers share a similar diagnosis and location, every Mohs procedure and reconstruction is planned around the individual patient, the surgical defect, and the surrounding anatomy.

These before-and-after photos show the long-term healing following treatment.

In Sierra Vista, Heather Stevens, Licensed Aesthetician and Certified Medical Laser Technician, helps patients build thoughtful treatment and skincare plans in a warm and supportive environment.

In Tucson, Isabel Scott, Licensed Aesthetician, offers customized facials, dermaplaning, chemical peels, SkinPen microneedling, Hydrafacial treatments, and medical-grade skincare guidance. As a bilingual provider, she is also able to support both English- and Spanish-speaking patients.

Beyond the Practice ✨

Last week, Dr. Moenster traveled to New Orleans for the Annual Clinical Assembly of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, where she presented a lecture on opening a surgery center and connected with colleagues, students, and fellow surgeons from across the country.

Dr. Moenster also serves on the ACOS Board of Governors and was appointed Member-at-Large, serving as part of the Executive Committee. During the conference, Dr. Weyer also contributed to the educational program with a lecture on Mohs reconstruction for the plastic surgery discipline.

Beyond the lectures and continuing education, the week offered time to reconnect with colleagues, mentor students, and explore New Orleans, including a little time touring the city with the team from Within Studio Interior Design, who designed our Tucson office.

We’re always proud to see our physicians sharing their expertise, continuing to learn, and staying connected to the broader medical community. 💙

Today’s Lunch & Learn focused on Skin Cancer Management with Dr. Weyer, Fellowship-Trained Mohs Surgeon. 🩺

Our team reviewed the different types of skin cancer, how treatment recommendations can vary based on the diagnosis and location, and what goes into planning for healing after treatment.

As a Mohs surgeon, Dr. Weyer brings a unique perspective to the conversation, from evaluating which cancers may be best suited for Mohs surgery to discussing reconstruction after removal. Depending on the size, location, and complexity of the surgical site, reconstruction may be performed by Dr. Weyer or coordinated with one of our in-house plastic surgeons when appropriate.

For experienced team members, sessions like this are a valuable refresher. For those newer to DPSAZ, they offer an opportunity to build confidence, ask questions, and learn directly from the source.

Continuing education helps keep our team informed, collaborative, and connected to the full patient journey, from diagnosis and treatment through healing and reconstruction.
