Whether he’s capturing towering trees, wild animals or the little details in everyday life, Stephen has a way of finding beauty everywhere he looks.

His love for photography also extends to collecting vintage cameras. Each camera in his collection at Atria Newport Beach represents a different chapter in the history of photography, from classic film cameras to the technology we use today.

For Stephen, photography is a chance to preserve a moment that might otherwise be gone in an instant. 🎞️

Meet Ozzy – and his human, Jefrrel – a four-legged member of the Atria San Juan family!

As Resident Services Director, Jefrrel oversees the community’s care departments and is especially passionate about working with residents living with dementia. She says she finds joy in understanding what they’re experiencing and helping them through both the challenges and the moments of joy.

And she has Ozzy, who helps her do just that.

The three-year-old Australian shepherd and trained service dog comes to work with Jeffrel and has quickly become a familiar face around the community. When residents see him, Jeffrel says, “They just brighten up.”

Ozzy can be especially helpful when a resident is having a difficult day. Jefrrel has seen how spending time with him can shift a resident’s mood and help them move toward something positive. He also brings plenty of joy to the team – and even the community’s visiting physician makes a point of seeing Ozzy on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“I love that he brings joy not just to the residents but also to the team,” Jefrrel says.

For Jefrrel, caring for residents is about understanding the person behind the challenges and finding opportunities for connection. Sometimes, that connection has four legs and a wagging tail. 🐾

Cupid’s arrow struck Al and Stella 74 years ago, and it’s been love ever since! ❤️

What is the key to such a long and happy marriage? "We spend a lot of quality time together," shares Stella. "And we give each other space to follow our individual passions."

The lovely couple recently celebrated their anniversary with friends and family at Atria Woodlands.

At Atria Park of Vintage Hills, Marsha's apartment is a testament to her SoCal lifestyle.

Marsha, an accomplished swimmer, and her late husband, Jerry, both grew up in La Jolla, where Jerry loved surfing, fishing, sailing and diving.

"He was a Seabee in the Navy and served in Vietnam," Marsha shares. He courageously rescued four Marines from drowning while surfing. "It earned him consideration for a Purple Heart."

Marsha keeps his surfboard proudly displayed in her apartment – a reminder of their life together and the adventures they shared.

Now, Marsha is creating new memories of her own at Atria Park of Vintage Hills in the sunshine of Temecula.

Things got a little saucy at Atria Briarcliff Manor – pasta sauce, that is! Residents joined Chef Leah and her family for a hands-on lesson in making and jarring homemade pesto and red sauce. Each resident walked away with a jar of their own!

"I have to give a shout-out to all the residents," says Sous Chef Maria. "They did an amazing job making tomato sauce with Chef Leah."

"What a blessing it is," Ellen says. "Who would have thought I'd make it to 100?” Atria Canyon Creek threw a big party to celebrate Ellen's birthday. Good food, friends and live entertainment made the day one to remember.

Apollo, the monarch butterfly, took flight! 🧡🦋

The residents at Atria Center City raised Apollo from a tiny egg on a milkweed plant, watching as he went through the incredible journey: first into a hungry caterpillar, then a chrysalis and finally a beautiful butterfly.

Residents gathered around to say goodbye to Apollo as he was released into the wild.

We served it up Southern style at our Taste of the Carolinas events.

We enjoyed BBQ brisket served with collard greens, mac and cheese and corn bread. And don’t forget about dessert – we had classic blackberry cobbler!

To top it off, we watched the sweet Southern classic, The Notebook!

We can't wait to see – and taste – the cuisine from our destination next month!

“Engage Life means finding joy," says Sarah, an Engage Life Program Instructor at Atria Newport Beach. "It means making time for our residents who make me smile, even on hard days. It means being present and appreciating the moments I get to share with them. Getting to make those memories with them at this moment in life.”
Sarah was recently recognized as Employee of the Month, and it's easy to see why. Her passion and attention to residents' needs have made her indispensable to her team.

She shares that working in senior living has taught her an important life lesson: to slow down.

"It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of daily life and work. But when a resident calls you over and asks you to sit for a minute, everything shifts." Those little pauses help her refocus and remember the purpose behind what she does every day.

Sarah, thank you for reminding us that Engage Life isn’t just about what we plan or the places we go. It’s about being present, slowing down, laughing together and finding joy in the people right in front of us.

We started the 2026-2027 school year off with partnerships between our communities and local schools. Our residents find so much joy in giving back and in passing on their wisdom to future generations.

Bikers may seem tough, but have you ever met a biker’s grandma? 🏍️💪

Atria San Juan showed off its wild side with a visit from the Lifestyle Cycles Riding Group and Black Sheep Motorcycle Ministry For Christ. Red bandanas, tattoo sleeves, live music, BBQ and plenty of laughter brought a little biker flair to the community – proving that adventure and a love of good times never go out of style! 🤘

This is not a book club there’s no assigned book and no set discussion topics. Instead, it’s a relaxed space for book lovers to connect, chat about what they’re currently reading, discover new recommendations, and enjoy great conversation with fellow readers.

🌮 Our Chef Taco Showdown was a huge success!

Our Culinary Chef, Antonio, challenged local chef Sybil, owner of Sybil Kitchen, in an exciting taco competition. The contest was incredibly close, with only a one-point difference separating the two talented chefs!

Sybil’s Tilapia Tacos were absolutely delicious, but in the end, Antonio’s Birria Tacos claimed the victory and won the showdown.

A special thank you to our judges: residents Allen and Janet, Engage Life Director Christianna, and special guest judge Jake Lindsey, a Tucson retired firefighter and paramedic. We also want to extend our gratitude to Philip with Foundation Partners for serving as our host.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this such a fun and memorable event. It was a competition to remember! 🎉🌮🏆

✨ Senior Prom 2026 ✨

What a night to remember! Our Senior Prom was filled with nostalgic bliss. From the moment they arrived, many of our residents never left the dance floor!

We enjoyed a fun “Memory Guess Who” wall featuring photos from our residents’ high school days, danced to classic sock hop favorites, and of course is wouldn’t be a Prom without crowning a Prom King and Queen.

Our residents had an amazing time exploring the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, one of the oldest Spanish presidio sites in Arizona.

Afterward, several residents tried mole for the very first time at Elvira’s, one of Tubac’s beloved restaurants. The delicious cuisine, eclectic atmosphere, and stunning hand-blown glass ceiling fixtures made for a truly memorable dining experience.

Our Tea Party was in full bloom! Residents enjoyed creating their own personalized tea blends while indulging in delicate finger sandwiches and some of our community’s favorite lemon bars. We sipped, savored, and chatted the afternoon away. It truly was a delightful experience.

Arizona heat brought our Garden Party🌷 indoors, but that didn’t stop the fun! Residents enjoyed fresh lemonade🍋, got creative with summer crafts, and arranged beautiful flower arrangements at our Snip & Fill Station, all while being serenaded with old school blues by Bruce Halper. 🎵

A fiesta was had with one of the best mariachi bands in Tucson, Mexico Norte Mariachis. We sipped margaritas, enjoyed delicious salsa and chips, and moved our feet to the music! 💃🕺

It was the perfect day for a BBQ at Madera Canyon, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend it than with our fellow residents from our sister communities, Atria Valley Manor and Atria Campana Del Rio. 🏞️🍔 Residents enjoyed fresh off‑the‑grill burgers on the mountaintop, great conversation, and even some friendly deer guests stopping by to keep us company.

We had the absolute pleasure of celebrating our resident Carol’s centennial birthday! 🎉 The room was filled with people sharing cherished memories from Carol’s incredible life and expressing the deep appreciation we all feel for having had our paths cross with hers. What a truly special celebration of 100 wonderful years!

Our Tie‑Dye event was a hit! Hosted in collaboration with Phillip from the Altogether Foundation, our residents and staff went full creative mode and created the grooviest shirts Atria has ever seen. Many even had the perfect shirt to show off during our Easter festivities! 🌈🐣
