We were the originals!
Naturopathic doctors were practicing functional medicine before it was cool. 😉
Long before “root cause medicine” became a buzzword, naturopathic physicians were asking different questions:
🔍 Why is this happening?
🔍 What systems are connected?
🔍 What is driving the dysfunction?
🔍 How can we support the body’s ability to heal?
We weren’t trained to simply match a diagnosis to a medication. We were trained to look at the whole person- their nutrition, gut health, hormones, immune system, environment, stress, sleep, relationships, genetics, and lifestyle- and understand how those pieces work together.
That’s not a trend.
That’s been the foundation of naturopathic medicine for over a century.
I’m grateful that more people are becoming interested in root-cause medicine and taking a proactive role in their health. The more conversations we have about prevention, nutrition, lifestyle, and whole-person care, the better.
The goal has never been to be different.
The goal has always been to help people heal.
For those of us who’ve been doing this for years, it’s been pretty incredible to watch the rest of healthcare start asking the same questions we’ve been asking all along.
💜 Here’s to treating the person, not just the diagnosis.
