I love my home made whip!!! Some scrap fabric braided and knotted is the perfect sensory snack for me. It brings out a song every time! The rhythm “normalizes” my tone and mood. It’s fun to feel the same input on different places and how it hits.

Inspired by urtication practices by monks! When you don’t have nettle sting yourself with this!

Check out the wear pattern on my shoes and footplate!

You can see I make contact the most with lateral portions of my feet. The heels rarely make contact.

Evidence like this can be great documentation! And offer ideas for treatments. Maybe I should put something under my heel- like a wedge- and see how it feels to actually make contact.

I loved Barbara Collier, LPC post about not rushing a welcome. About cherishing the re-acquaintance. 🌺

Griffin did not want any physical contact the first day he arrived- I did not even go in the pen. He told me in various ways that he was not ready for a physical “hello” yet.

I sat by the pen and energetically connected and, to my surprise, I didn’t get offended! I wanted to hug when he was ready.

The next day I went in. He came right over and put his nose on my face 😭 we indulged in some neck scratches and he gave me a hug. We are so thankful to be together after a long and safe journey.

Playing in/with the vertical plane!

This is an extremely useful skill I’ve been honing over the years. Not every place has a ramp. I don’t have my buff wonderful husband with me always to bump my bum around in a wc.
-yoga mat is to soften the input (I have lovingly described my b***y as having princess and the pea syndrome)
-shoes to protect my feet. Sometimes boots to protect ankles as well
-railing added some stability (physical and mental)
-it was great to feel gravity help to extend my lowers and trunk. My go to is to flex inward. I’d call this passive extension with some active relaxation or allowing.

Hill work! I’ve used hills with Bridget the horse to strengthen her hind end and back. Same with my dog Penny. Even though I’m sitting I can feel the gravity line is different compared to level ground. This incline felt good on my hips and helped me obtain upright posture through different feedback and just the right amount of challenge and set up (boots so grass didn’t tickle my feet and set off spasms, some movement beforehand)

Anyone see the door? We took off a closet door and now it’s an entrance to The Fort.

We made it to Michigan! Some shots of the last few weeks-
-Meal prep using a wc cushion for extra height and cushion. A back for support when I need it.
-Deer in our yard~hi neighbors!
-some old farm equipment that’s got me creating stories
-farm equipment that is stuck in a tree…..!
-mushrooms and moss
-standing in the hotel with my KFOs and the (ever present) support of my man

Traveling, moving are tough. More so with a disability. Things I’m proud of about this move:
I did not get constipated……💩🌟👏🏼
I did not have any injuries (skin breakdown being the biggest concern)
My tone was manageable

We are missing Tucson friends and enjoying exploring our new home 💙

My glorious INTENTIONAL kitchen.

-induction stove limits burns. About chest height so I can see most of what I’m cooking. And stir with less shoulder fatigue.

-all burner control are in the front= no reaching over sizzling pans to change temps

-roll under counter** this is tricky. Days with high tone and when I wear my AFOs I have to put feet on floor instead of footplate. But getting close without turning sideways is a game changer.

-large handles to open drawers. I have full function of my UE’s and hands BUT I also have varying grip strength because I use my hands so dang much.

-an oven I can’t fall into! Actually two ✌🏼 I have baked bread in these and I can pull the Dutch oven out myself and slide onto a cutting board on my lap

- granite that I can slide pots from the sink over to the stove

Even little changes can be so impactful.

This house has hosted countless birthday parties, retreats, continuing education events, camps…..it has so many wonderful spaces. 💕🌟🛖

And yes we use the fireplace- there are some chilly times in the winter and it is so cozy.
