One of the most frequent questions I get asked is: 'Do I have to take my hearing aids out for the TSA scanner?' 🤔

The short answer? Nope! You generally do not need to remove your hearing aids to go through security.

However, some of our patients prefer to head through security with their “ears” off. If you have mild hearing loss and feel more comfortable removing your devices for the scanners, just make sure your storage case is handy in your carry-on. Keeping them tucked away in their proper home ensures they stay safe and sound while you navigate the terminal!

One of the most exciting breakthroughs we’ve seen in tinnitus is a technology called "bimodal neuromodulation." 🤩

It sounds complex, but the concept is brilliant: we pair customized sound therapy played through headphones with gentle physical stimulation (like a vibrating wristband or a small device on the tip of the tongue 👅). By stimulating your auditory and nervous systems simultaneously, we essentially distract your brain and force it to rewire the neural circuits that are causing the tinnitus.

While we don't directly dispense bimodal neuromodulation devices, we are passionate about keeping our patients informed on the latest breakthroughs in the field. Finding the right treatment always starts with understanding your specific hearing profile.

Reach out to our team to schedule an evaluation, and we will help you explore all of your options, both inside and outside our clinic! 🙌

June is Men’s Health Month, and while we talk a lot about heart health and screenings, there’s one vital sense that often gets overlooked: your hearing. 😰

In the summer, hobbies like lawn mowing, motorcycling, and woodworking are in full swing.

These activities often exceed 85dB, the level where permanent damage can begin. While we understand women are exposed to these environments as well, statistically, men are more likely to experience noise-induced hearing loss.

You don’t have to give up the hobbies you love. You just have to protect your ears while you do them. 👂 If you’ve noticed a new ringing in your ears after a Saturday in the yard, let's chat.

Hey… the "smartest" thing you’ll wear this year might actually be your hearing aids! 🦻😁

Auracast™ Connectivity: Public audio streaming is now a reality. From silent TVs in sports bars to crystal-clear gate announcements, the world is becoming an 'open-audio' playground for our patients.
While we are still waiting for the first local installations here in Tucson, this tech is a game-changer for travelers! You might already run into Auracast™ at major hubs like the Chicago O'Hare Airport, the Marriott Theatre in Chicago, or larger places of worship!

Have you or someone you know been able to test out Auracast? Tell us what you thought! 👇

Hi, I’m Dr. Brianna Robillard, and I’m an Audiologist for Oro Valley Audiology and Grace Hearing Center 👋

My favorite part of the job?
My favorite part is working with patients. I love building relationships with my patients, getting to know their stories, and seeing the real-life difference better hearing can make, not just for them but for their families too.

I’m here to make things feel simple, organized, and a little less stressful from the very beginning.

As Better Speech and Hearing Month comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the conversations I have with patients every day.

So often, people tell me they thought others were just mumbling, or that crowded places had somehow gotten harder. In reality, even small changes in hearing can make communication feel more exhausting than it used to.

One of the things I care most about is helping people understand that hearing well isn’t just about volume — it’s about staying connected, feeling confident in conversations, and being fully present in your life.

If there’s one takeaway from this month, it’s this: pay attention to the small signs 👉 asking people to repeat themselves, feeling worn out after social events, or noticing that speech doesn’t sound as clear as it once did.
Awareness is the first step.

Better hearing can feel a lot like finally stepping into the sunlight after a cloudy day. ☀️

Sometimes our patients have poor word recognition. That means even if the hearing aids are fit perfectly they may not pick up everything being said at a large dinner table. That is when I always let our patients know about remote microphones.

Even with hearing aids, certain environments, like restaurants, meetings, and classrooms, can still be challenging. Competing noise often makes it harder to follow conversations. 🗣

Assistive listening accessories such as remote and table microphones can send speech directly to your hearing aids, improving clarity in busy settings. The right tools help conversations feel easier and less tiring. 💗

Support exists beyond hearing aids alone.

“I kept meaning to get it checked.” 😔
Maybe it was ringing in the ears that came and went. Maybe it was muffled hearing. Maybe hearing aids were not working quite right. These things can seem small at first, but they can have a real impact on quality of life over time.

Better Speech and Hearing Month is a good reminder that our hearing deserves attention, too! 🙌 Tinnitus, earwax buildup, and gradual hearing changes can all make communication harder and increase stress in ways people do not always connect right away.
I want people to know they do not have to wait until hearing problems feel “serious enough.” Early attention can make a meaningful difference.
Sometimes, taking care of your hearing is simply giving yourself permission to stop struggling in silence! 💓

Work environments can highlight challenges you might not notice anywhere else!
A patient once told me, “I feel like everyone at work is mumbling.” 😟 She was in meetings all the time and started pulling back from projects because she was worried she would miss something important and look unprofessional.

For those with untreated hearing loss in situations like these, it is not JUST about hearing. It is about confidence, and how comfortable you feel speaking up and staying engaged.

So we talked through what meetings were like for her day to day, then tested her hearing and reviewed why certain speech clarity issues show up more in group settings, especially when people are not facing you or are talking across the room.

We focused on a plan that would help her follow conversations more easily without feeling like she had to work so hard to keep up. 📝

The win was huge for her. She told me, “I stopped blaming my coworkers for being quiet. Now I can follow conversations even when someone is turned toward the whiteboard.”

Even better, she said her confidence at work had completely changed. She was participating more, speaking up, and no longer second guessing herself. 🥹💓

If you have ever felt like everyone around you is mumbling, you are definitely not alone. There is usually more going on, and it is something we can help with.

“The smallest hearing aid must be the best option.” 👂💡

It’s easy to assume smaller hearing aids are always better, but that isn’t always true. Very small devices have limited space for features, power, and speakers, making them less effective for certain hearing losses.

The best hearing aid balances comfort, performance, and your listening needs. Larger styles can still be discreet while offering better clarity and advanced technology.

Function should always come first.
