The Academy Village

The Academy Village - Unique community in the beautiful Rincon Valley SE of Tucson.
- Founded by UA President Emeritus
- Home of the Arizona Senior Academy (ASA)

The Academy Village is a vibrant and friendly retirement community ideal for active, independent adults who have no intention of retiring from life. It is located in the foothills of the beautiful Rincon Mountains, just east of Tucson Arizona and next door to one of the nation’s great national parks. Cultural events, fitness classes, lectures, and a wide variety of interest groups provide resident

s with limitless possibilities for personal growth, well-being, and creativity. The village is uniquely designed to facilitate pursuing the next stages of life after 50 among friends in a physically and intellectually stimulating environment. Residents are typically engineers, physicians, nurses, teachers, attorneys, homemakers, business owners, professors, retired government including military, psychologists, astronomers, writers and more. The Village contains only about 230 homes and a small, exceptionally "user-friendly" assisted living complex, making it easy for residents from 45 to 90+ to quickly become and remain a part of the community. At the heart of our Village is The Arizona Senior Academy, a non-profit corporation devoted to life-long learning, thinking, and doing in the context of local community outreach. Life in Academy Village keeps residents engaged whether they plan to continue working, volunteer in community efforts, participate in educational or leisure activities, or discover an entirely new passion. The purpose of this page is to share the activities of the Village and multi-media reflections of its dramatically beautiful environment with family, friends and potential residents. AV avifauna: Gambel's Quail out on a limb. These essentially ground-dwelling birds use elevated perches to (1) scout for danger, (2) advertise territory during Spring courtship and (3) improve sleep safety at night.

ASA events: Monday Lecture Sonora’s Spirit - Bacanora June 1st 3:00 - 4:00pm in the Koffler Great Room and on zoom. Alex La Pierre (Citizen Diplomat, Co-founder Borderlandia) joins us again, this time diving into the distillation process of Sonora’s Sierra Madres. He’ll uncover the roots of agave culture in NW Mexico by way of geography, history, and the culinary arts. We’ll leave with an understanding of mezcal, tequila, sotol and bacanora and what makes them distinct. You’ll be able to identify some of the producers, learn about their process and how some of the brands are now working with environmental groups to protect agave habitats.
