Did you know that many chronic health conditions can develop quietly, with few or no noticeable symptoms in their early stages?

Routine wellness visits and preventive screenings can help identify potential concerns before they become more serious. Whether it's checking your blood pressure, monitoring blood sugar, reviewing medications, or simply talking with your healthcare provider about changes you've noticed, staying proactive is one of the best investments you can make in your health.

At Swisher Memorial Healthcare System, we're committed to providing compassionate, quality care close to home. If it's been a while since your last checkup, consider making your health a priority this summer.

Small steps today can make a big difference for your future.

World Hepatitis Day — July 28, 2026

This year’s World Hepatitis Day theme, “Hepatitis: Let’s break it down,” highlights the importance of breaking down the barriers that prevent people from accessing life-saving testing, treatment, and care.

Hepatitis affects millions of people worldwide, yet many individuals remain unaware they have the disease. Increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging conversations about liver health are important steps toward prevention and early intervention.

At Swisher Memorial Healthcare System, we encourage our community to learn the facts, talk with their healthcare provider about their risks, and take proactive steps to protect their health.

Together, we can help break down barriers and build a healthier future.

This year's theme “Hepatitis: Let’s Break it Down” calls for urgent action to dismantle the financial, social and systemic barriers – including stigma – that stand in the way of hepatitis elimination and liver cancer prevention.

We're excited, proud, and incredibly grateful to announce that Emily (Dyer) Smith, PA-C is joining the team at Tulia Rural Health Clinic!

Emily will begin her career with us on August 3, spending her first few months working alongside our four established providers as she gets to know our patients and community. She'll begin accepting new patients later this fall.

A proud Nazareth, Texas native, Emily earned her undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center before completing Physician Assistant school at UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2025. She is NCCPA-certified and brings not only excellent clinical training, but also a genuine passion for caring for rural Texans.

Emily believes in treating the whole person—not just a collection of symptoms. Her goal is to identify the root cause of health concerns while partnering with patients to support their overall wellness and help them make informed decisions about their care.

We couldn't be more thankful that Emily has chosen to return home to serve the communities she knows and loves. We know you'll enjoy getting to know her, and we can't wait for you to welcome her to the Tulia Rural Health Clinic family!

Fun fact: In her free time, Emily actually enjoys deep cleaning her house! 😊

Planning Another Summer Getaway? Travel Smart and Stay Healthy

There's still plenty of summer left to make memories. Whether you're heading to the mountains, the beach, or visiting family, a little preparation can help keep your trip safe and enjoyable.

Before you go:
• Pack any prescription medications and a small first-aid kit.
• Stay up to date on routine vaccinations if you're traveling.
• Wear your seatbelt every time you're in the car.
• Take breaks during long drives to stretch and avoid fatigue.
• Practice good hand hygiene while traveling.
• If you're flying, get up and move around periodically to improve circulation.

A little planning goes a long way toward making your vacation memorable for all the right reasons.

From all of us at Swisher Memorial Healthcare System, we wish you safe travels and a healthy summer!
