Every profession has a few hills they’ll die on.
As a child-led, play-based speech therapist, these are mine:
💛 Connection > Compliance
💛 Play is not a break from therapy. Play IS therapy.
💛 Behavior is communication.
💛 Scripts and echolalia are language.
💛 Building trust and connection is bigger than “meeting a goal.”
The older I get and the more children I have the privilege of working with, the more convinced I become that meaningful progress starts with relationships.
Before a child can learn from us, they need to trust us.
Before they can communicate with us, they need to feel safe with us.
Before they can take risks, try new things, and grow, they need to know that they are accepted exactly as they are.
The goals matter.
The data matters.
But if a child leaves therapy feeling seen, valued, and excited to come back next week, we’ve built the foundation that makes all of those goals possible.
At Sacred Hearts Therapy, we believe children deserve more than therapy that focuses on compliance. They deserve connection, play, trust, and relationships that help communication grow naturally and meaningfully.
Those are a few hills I’ll happily stand on forever. ❤️
What are some hills YOU would die on as a parent, therapist, teacher, or caregiver?
