Please welcome Kyle Miller, LPC, to Drue Day Counseling! 💙

Kyle is a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with individuals, couples, families, and polyamorous & ENM/CNM relationships. He's especially passionate about helping people work through religious trauma, LGBTQ+ identity, shame, anxiety, and depression.

Before becoming a counselor, Kyle studied theology at Phillips Theological Seminary, where he focused on how religious trauma affects LGBTQ+ people and other marginalized communities. His work is rooted in a psychodynamic lens, and he also draws on ACT, CBT, DBT, MI, Written Exposure Therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy, depending on what each client needs.

In his words, he approaches therapy "from a place of curiosity." Sessions with him tend to be conversational and collaborative, and his office is a space where you don't have to edit yourself.

Kyle is now accepting new clients on Fridays, both in person and through telehealth.

So many of us are working past our capacity, not because we love overwork, but because the bills are real and care work is chronically underpaid. And the work itself asks a lot of our bodies and nervous systems.

If that's you right now, you're not doing it wrong. You're carrying a lot in a system that doesn't make it easy to carry less.

Images 2 through 9 have a pale blush background, dark plum text, a soft pink circle in one corner, and a small pink heart. Every image has the footer . Image text follows.]

Save this for the heavy weeks, and share it with a clinician who needs the reminder.

What helps you come back to yourself between sessions?

BAD AT ALGEBRA. GREAT AT CHANGING THE WORLD.

Dr. Temple Grandin reminds us that struggling in one subject does not define a person's intelligence, potential, or future.

She became a renowned professor, inventor, bestselling author, and a leading voice in autism education and animal science.

Sometimes, the world measures success in grades and test scores. But true potential comes in many forms. When we recognize different strengths and nurture individual talents, we give people the opportunity to do extraordinary things.

Different minds. Different strengths. Limitless possibilities.

Have you ever stopped to consider how everyday expectations can create barriers for disabled and neurodivergent people?

Ableism can show up in assumptions, expectations, language, and behaviours that suggest there is one right way to work, learn, communicate, or participate.

Some examples of ableism you may not realize include:

🎈 Judging someone for taking medication or assuming they should manage without it.

🎈 Shaming people for being unable to work or treating employment as a measure of someone's value.

🎈 Calling accommodations “special treatment” instead of recognizing them as supports for equitable access.

🎈 Correcting someone's spelling or grammar without being asked, particularly when communication differences may be related to disability or neurodivergence.

🎈 Calling someone lazy for needing more rest or assuming they should push through exhaustion.

🎈 Assuming chronic pain cannot fluctuate because someone was able to do something one day that they cannot do another.

🎈 Expecting people to push through pain instead of respecting their physical limitations and support needs.

🎈 Giving awards for 100% attendance, reinforcing the idea that everyone should be able to attend consistently.

🎈 Teasing someone for forgetting something when memory difficulties may be related to disability, neurodivergence, stress, or other factors.

Creating more accessible environments means questioning assumptions, respecting individual needs, and recognizing that disability and access needs can vary.

At Blue Sky Learning, our neurodiversity-affirming therapists and coaches support individuals in understanding their needs, navigating barriers, and developing strategies that honour the way their brains and bodies work.

THE AuDHD BRAIN – WHEN TWO SETS OF NEEDS COLLIDE

Imagine needing routine and predictability, but also craving novelty and stimulation.

Wanting structure, yet struggling to maintain it.

Seeking sensory input, only to become overwhelmed by it.

For some AuDHD children, this is part of their everyday experience.

Autism and ADHD do not simply exist alongside one another. Their traits can interact, sometimes creating competing needs that are difficult for a child to navigate.

What looks like inconsistency, resistance or contradictory behaviour may actually reflect a child trying to manage these different needs.

Understanding this interaction helps us move away from expectations that a child should respond in the same way every time.

Support starts with understanding the brain, not judging the behaviour.

Save this post to help understand the AuDHD brain.
