Massage can be used as a relaxation tool (*cue the feelings bliss and tranquility of a day at the spa!*), but it’s also used by physical therapists as treatment tool. Our physical therapists and other trained professionals might use massage in combination with exercises and other modalities to address specific conditions or injuries.

Some of the benefits of therapeutic massage can include:
• Pain reduction, which can lead to higher tolerance of other PT exercises;
• Stress relief;
• Better sleep, for more energy for therapy!

Don’t let summertime allergies stop your fun in the sun! According to the CDC, more than 25% of American adults suffer from seasonal allergies. That’s some pesky pollen! Here are some tips from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America for managing allergy symptoms:
•Try an allergy treatment such as a saline nasal rinse, corticosteroid nasal sprays, antihistamines, or eye drops. Always check with your doctor to determine which treatment is right for you.
•Monitor pollen counts using online tools or weather reports
•Shower before going to bed to rinse pollen off your body and keep it away from your bedding.
•Change and wash clothes worn during outdoor activities and remove your shoes before entering your home.
•Keep windows closed, if possible, during peak pollen times.

July is UV Protection Awareness Month.

Did you know?

Many OTC and prescription medications increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays, meaning you could be more susceptible to a sunburn when taking them.* Read medication labels closely and use extra sunscreen as needed! Shade, protective clothing, and sunglasses are your friends, too. Being can help lower your risk of skin cancer and other health issues caused by harmful exposure to the sun’s rays.
