Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI) just became the first facility in the country to use the next-generation Supira percutaneous left ventricular assist device (pVAD) as part of the SUPPORT II research trial.

The SUPPORT II research trial studies the Supira pVAD device’s efficiency, helping the left ventricle pump blood through the heart during high-risk stenting while treating blockages in the heart. The investigational device utilizes a smaller profile than currently available VADs and more support for the patient’s heart, potentially expanding the available treatment population and improving effectiveness and safety. OHI is the only institute in the region participating in this trial.

Congratulations to our team, led by Dr. Kamran Muhammad and Dr. Robert Smith, on this milestone success.

1,000 Watchman procedures and 1,000 Farapulse ablations.

These numbers represent more than cases; they reflect the lives we’ve impacted together at Oklahoma Heart Institute. We're so grateful for our entire team, Drs. Craig Cameron, Joseph Gard and David Sandler, staff, imaging, anesthesia and our partners at Boston Scientific for the dedication, long hours and commitment to exceptional care.

We were honored to celebrate with our patients, staff, family and friends this incredible milestone!

Congratulations to Dr. Kamran Muhammad and our structural heart team for completing two cases in the STAR trial! Oklahoma Heart Institute is the first site in the state and one of just 30 sites in the United States participating in this trial, which tests the effectiveness of the MiRus Siegel™ aortic transcatheter heart valve for TAVR. Dr. Muhammad was also invited to join the trial's steering committee, which is responsible for overall design, conduction, data integrity and publication of trial results.

This next-generation valve is made from a strong, advanced metal that may have advantages over current technology, including:

• A smaller incision for valve delivery, potentially lowering the risk of bleeding and complications
• Superior valve performance

The valve is being studied to see how well it treats severe aortic valve stenosis (narrowing of the main heart valve). If you'd like to learn more about this trial or see if you qualify to participate, call 918-574-9703 or visit the links in the comments below.
