KidneyCare Oklahoma, formerly Nephrology Associates Inc. was established in 1972 by T. Richard Medlock, MD whose vision was to provide his nephrology patients with the highest quality of care available and to treat each with compassion and care. Times have changed, but our vision is the same. With five physicians and two nurse practitioners, our highly qualified staff is available to give you the

individualized treatment, care and attention you need. Our physicians also serve as Medical Director over both the St John Medical Center Acute Dialysis Unit and the St John Kidney Transplant Program. In addition, they serve as Medical Directors of most of the Fresenius Dialysis Units in NE Oklahoma. We have clinics located in Tulsa, Bartlesville and Muskogee and are on staff at St John Medical Center and Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, OK; Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, OK; and Eastar in Muskogee, OK. Living with kidney disease can start to feel like being a set of numbers on a screen.

Renee Davis, APRN, CNP, believes in caring for the whole person rather than a lab value or a diagnosis. She brings compassion, honesty, and encouragement to every patient relationship.

Honesty matters here. Patients managing kidney disease hear plenty of vague reassurance. Renee gives them the real picture and helps them see what they can do about it.

If your provider has mentioned a stage number, here is what it means.

The National Kidney Foundation divides chronic kidney disease into five stages. Each stage calls for different tests and different treatments, so knowing the stage helps your care team choose the right approach for you.

Stage is based largely on GFR, the number that estimates how well your kidneys are filtering waste from your blood.

A stage is a planning tool. Your provider also considers your age, health history, symptoms, and other lab results before making decisions about your care.

Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, naproxen, and Aleve sit in almost every medicine cabinet. Most people take them without a second thought.

They belong to a group called NSAIDs, short for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. NSAIDs can affect blood flow to the kidneys, and that matters more when kidney function is already reduced.

The full list of NSAIDs is long, and many are sold under brand names that give no hint they are related. Memorizing them all is unrealistic.

The simple version: ask your nephrologist before you take an over-the-counter pain reliever.

That question is always welcome. It takes a moment, and it helps your care team protect your kidney function.

Sending photos of your medications is one of the simplest ways to keep your list accurate. A few small details decide whether those photos are usable.

Line the bottles up on a table. Turn the labels toward the camera. Check your lighting, and make sure the medication names are readable before you send.

One to three clear pictures usually covers it.

When a label is turned away or the picture is blurry, our staff cannot confirm the name or the dose, which often means a phone call to sort it out later.

Your provider asks what medications you are taking, and you pause, because you are not entirely sure.

That happens often, and it is easy to fix. The list in our system may not match what you actually take at home.

Before your next visit: complete your labs, bring your blood pressure and weight log, bring your questions, and tell us about any hospital stays, ER visits, or new medications from other providers.

For your medication list, pick whichever is easiest:

Upload photos in MyChart before your visit
Show the photos on your phone at check-in
Bring the bottles in a bag

Include prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements.

Your visit is worth more when your provider has the right information before walking into the room.

Kidney disease rarely shows up by itself. Many patients are managing diabetes, high blood pressure, or other conditions at the same time.

Stephanie R. Moore, DNP, APRN, ACNS-BC, works in that territory every day. She cares for patients with complex kidney conditions, collaborating closely with nephrologists and other specialists to manage end-stage renal disease, acute kidney injury, and the conditions that come alongside them.

Her background spans nephrology and oncology, along with decades of leadership, teaching, and research in nursing practice.
