Hillcrest Medical Center is bringing advanced treatment for enlarged prostates to patients across Oklahoma.

This week, Dr. Dae Kim launched the new HYDROS Aquablation platform at Hillcrest, successfully treating three patients on the technology’s first day of use.

With enhanced imaging to support precision and efficiency, the procedures averaged just 42 minutes — nearly 18% faster than historical averages for similar cases.

By combining surgical expertise with innovative technology, Hillcrest continues to expand access to advanced BPH treatment designed to help patients find lasting symptom relief.

The Medicare Advantage & Prescription Drug Plan Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) runs from October 15 until December 7, and is when Medicare beneficiaries can make changes to their insurance for the calendar year 2027.

Those enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan or a standalone Medicare Prescription Drug plan (PDP) may experience changes to their plan benefits and/or premium for 2027. Carefully review your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) letter sent early October by your Medicare Advantage or PDP plan to verify all changes to your coverage for calendar year 2027.

We encourage patients to learn more about their Medicare plan options and see how they will be impacted in 2027 by visiting MedicareOnDemand.com/Hillcrest or by calling the Helpline toll-free at 855-607-2615, TTY 711 (M-F 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.) to speak with a licensed insurance agent.

For patients with advanced heart failure, an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) can be a lifesaving treatment. One of the challenges following LVAD surgery, however, is potential right-heart failure during recovery.

Dr. Ajit Tharakan and his colleagues at the Oklahoma Heart Institute recently published research highlighting an innovative approach called the Tharakan-Ventricular Assist Device (T-VAD), a temporary support strategy designed to help the right side of the heart recover after surgery.

The study reported encouraging results, with 95% of patients who received T-VAD support alive at follow-up, underscoring the potential of this approach to improve outcomes for patients facing complex heart conditions.

We are proud to see Dr. Tharakan and our cardiovascular team contributing to research that advances the field of heart failure care and helps shape the future of treatment for patients across our region.

Hillcrest is meeting the region’s needs with advanced technology, procedures and specialized care not found elsewhere in Oklahoma.

Recently, healthcare providers from the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Osage Nation and Cherokee Nation health systems visited Hillcrest to learn firsthand how our specialists approach complex cases and help detect and treat cancer as early as possible.

The visit highlighted advanced care in areas including:
• Men’s prostate health and Aquablation for BPH
• Breast cancer surgery and reconstruction
• Cardiovascular and vascular surgery
• Thoracic oncology
• Catheterization
• Colonoscopy and colorectal surgery
• Liver, pancreas and biliary tumor care

The group also toured the Cath Lab at Oklahoma Heart Institute, learning about its dozens of “first in Oklahoma” cardiovascular procedures and clinical trials, visited the CVICU and explored advanced gastroenterology procedures in the endoscopy labs at Hillcrest Medical Center.

From minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery to advanced cardiovascular and cancer care, Hillcrest continues to bring innovative treatment options to patients across the region.

Chronic knee pain can make everyday activities feel harder than they should. For Mandy, years of worsening pain began to impact everything from driving and hiking to traveling and simply standing for long periods.

After meeting orthopedic surgeon Dr. Chad Crawley, Mandy found a treatment plan that renewed her confidence — and gave her a new outlook on what was possible. After a robot-assisted knee replacement at Hillcrest Medical Center, she started physical therapy the same day and noticed improvements within her first week.

Now, Mandy is looking forward to hiking, kayaking and traveling again without constant knee pain.
