I grew up around creepy and perverted men and took pride in my ability to spot one from afar.

And yet, in my many times of crossing paths with Rep. John Waldron, he did not alarm any bells. He was the kind and approachable representative who went around shaking hands with everyone in the room. He was the former public school teacher who believed and fought for his constituents.

Does this mean my intuition is off? No.
Does this mean the victim is wrong? No.

It means what women and survivors have known all along: indecent men come in all shapes and sizes. They are our friends, family, our pastors and trusted leaders.

And in many cases like this one, protected by the system.

Believe women.

HOW TO BE AN OLYMPIC ATHLETE (or have the mental state of one)

1. CELEBRATE YOUR WINS.

Romania figure skater Julia Sauter was uncontrollable with joy after seeing her final score on the board. At 28, one of the oldest olympians, she scored not nearly enough to stand on the podium. That didn’t stop her from celebrating anyway.

2. USE YOUR COPING SKILLS

Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin was seen eating sour gummy to ease her anxiety before her slalom run! This is a form of grounding technique and DBT. Seeing this was pretty exciting as a therapist!

3. HAVE FUN.

Alysa Liu went to the Olympics not for a medal, but to enjoy herself. She went on to win gold🥇Imagine how far all of us will go if we had a bit more fun!

4. LEAN ON YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM

Each one of these olympians has a coach that is standing by them on stage, family and friends who love them, and a country that is cheering them on. They definitely didn’t get here alone, neither should we.
