We’ve always believed hospitality lives in the details.

A comfortable chair.
Natural light.
A quiet corner to visit awhile.

Whether you’re here for a celebration, a gathering, or a time of remembrance, we want every space at Mt. Vernon Chapel to feel warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully prepared for the people who fill it.

Rainy days can’t get you down with a sun room like this — but not every wedding day comes with blue skies.

There’s something beautiful about watching the rain fall outside while the celebration carries on inside.

A bright, welcoming space for guests to gather, visit, and enjoy every moment—rain or shine. 🌧️🤍

Not every meaningful conversation happens in the chapel during a memorial service or in the receiving line during a visitation.

Sometimes it happens standing in the kitchen with a hot cup of coffee in-hand while someone tells a familiar favorite or unheard story about your loved one.

Sometimes grief looks like silence.
Sometimes it looks like laughter unexpectedly breaking through the heaviness.
Sometimes it’s simply people gathering close over a cup of coffee.

When Mt. Vernon Chapel was designed, spaces like this mattered deeply to us.

We wanted families to have places that felt familiar, comfortable, and lived in. Less like a traditional funeral home and a little more like your home.

Freedom has never come without sacrifice.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

We’re especially mindful of the families who carry both gratitude and grief today and of the legacies left behind by those who sacrificed everything for our freedom.

Wishing everyone a safe, peaceful, and meaningful Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

Wrap-around porches are made for more than just homes.

A space for cocktail hours, coffee before a service, conversations with family afterward, or simply stepping outside for a quiet moment.

This porch was designed to feel warm, welcoming, and a little less traditional.

Different by Design.

Christine Mullens

Baldwyn, MS - Mary Christine Stapleton Mullens, 72, peacefully passed away on May 10, 2026, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice in Tupelo, MS. Born on December 23, 1953, in Jacksonville, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Frank Marion Stapleton and Mary Alice Patterson Stapleton Crabtree.

Christine was raised in Macon, Mississippi, where she graduated from Central Academy High School in 1972. Following her graduation, she attended Golden Triangle Vocational-Technical Center. On June 29, 1974, she married the love of her life, Richard Mullens. Throughout their 51 years of marriage, they made their homes across the South following Richard's career.

While living in Anniston, AL, Christine worked at the Anniston Star and Woodland Buildings, Inc. She and her family spent 17 years in Daphne, AL, where she was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed tending to her family. After Richard retired, they moved to Baldwyn, MS, to be closer to family. A gifted crafter, Christine shared her talents through crocheting and jewelry making. Those who knew her will fondly remember her love for her house plants and flowers, and her lifelong passion for hummingbirds. Above all, her greatest joy was her family.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Mullens of Baldwyn, MS; her two daughters, Alicia Wooley of Baldwyn, MS and Lindsay Henry (Patrick) of Baldwyn, MS; her brother, Randy Stapleton (Debbie) of Macon, MS; and her brother-in-law, Claude Richardson of Louisville, MS; and her beloved grandson, Gaige Mullens of Baldwyn, MS.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Stapleton; her mother, Mary Alice Crabtree; and her stepfather, Ted Crabtree; her brother, Douglas Stapleton; and her sister, Helen Richardson.

A celebration of Mrs. Christine's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Mt. Vernon Chapel, 1716 McCullough Blvd, Tupelo, MS with Pastor Bill Ross officiating. A one-hour visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Mt. Vernon Chapel. Burial will follow at Priceville Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jimbo Stapleton, Robby Stapleton, David Mullens II, Gaige Mullens, Patrick Henry, and Chris Kennedy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Christine's honor to the St. Jude Hummingbird & Butterfly Garden, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.

Mt. Vernon Chapel is honored to be assisting the Mullens family during this time. Expressions of sympathy may be shared on Mrs. Christine's memorial page at mtvernonchapel.com.

Mother’s Day carries a lot of emotion.
For many, it’s joyful and full of celebration. For others, it can feel a little quieter… a little heavier.

Today, we’re thinking of the mothers who are deeply missed and the families carrying their memory forward. A favorite recipe, a handwritten note, the way she made a house feel like home—love has a way of staying with us.

If today feels tender for you, you’re not alone. 🤍
