University Medical Center highlights Drs. Grier Stewart and Jackie Luker for their work as medical directors at Crossings at North River Assisted Living in Tuscaloosa.

Stewart, an internal medicine physician at UMC, and Luker, a geriatrician at UMC, work with Crossings staff to oversee resident care policies, coordinate medical services and support quality assurance efforts to maintain standards of care. Both physicians also provide direct medical care to residents.

Thank you to everyone who joined University Medical Center for “The Future of Rural Health,” a free community event at the Akron Public Library.

UMC was a sponsor of the event, which brought together health care professionals, educators, community leaders, elected officials, students and community members to discuss the future of health care in rural communities.

Participants engaged in panel discussions and community conversations on access to health care, including workforce needs and transportation barriers, while exploring solutions such as telemedicine.

Did you know that University of Alabama employees with UA health insurance, and their dependents, can fill prescriptions on campus?

The University Health Service Pharmacy, operated by University Medical Center, serves UA faculty and staff and their dependents who have UA health insurance. The pharmacy also offers select over-the-counter items and assistance with prescription transfers.

The pharmacy is located just steps from UMC's Faculty-Staff Clinic at 750 Peter Bryce Blvd., Tuscaloosa, 35401. Patients should use the entrance on the side of the building facing the UA tennis courts. Call (205) 348-6276 for more information.
