On National Grief Awareness Day, we recognize that grief looks different for everyone. 💜

There is no timeline, no “right” way to grieve, and no need to walk through it alone.

At Hospice of West Alabama, our Bereavement Counseling services are available to anyone in our community experiencing grief, not just those who have lost a loved one who received care from our agency. We’re here to provide support, compassion, and a safe place to talk through the challenges of loss.

Who qualifies for hospice care, and how do you know when it’s time? 🤍

Hospice care is generally considered when someone is facing a terminal condition with a life expectancy of six months or less. At Hospice of West Alabama, each patient’s information is carefully reviewed by physicians to ensure hospice is the appropriate next step.

What is respite care?

Respite care is a short-term stay in our Inpatient Unit that allows hospice patients to receive compassionate, around-the-clock care while their primary caregiver takes a well-deserved break. Whether it’s time to rest, attend appointments, travel, or simply recharge, respite care gives caregivers the opportunity to care for themselves while knowing their loved one is safe and receiving excellent care.

Taking a break isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s an important part of being able to continue providing care.
