Celebrating 39 Years of Dedicated Service — Jackie Cockrell

On Wednesday, August 26, we had the honor of celebrating the retirement of Jackie Cockrell from Bryce Hospital after an incredible 39 years of dedicated service with the Alabama Department of Mental Health.

As Director of the Social Work Program at Bryce Hospital, Jackie’s work extended far beyond a title or position. Throughout her career, she demonstrated the true heart of social work—advocating for patients, supporting families, providing guidance during difficult circumstances, and ensuring that those entrusted to our care were treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Jackie was also a tremendous source of support for her staff. She led with experience, wisdom, compassion, and a genuine desire to see others succeed. Her commitment helped strengthen the Social Work Program and contributed greatly to the quality of care provided to the patients of Bryce Hospital.

After 39 years of service, Jackie leaves behind a remarkable legacy—one reflected in the countless patients, families, coworkers, and professionals whose lives she has touched.

Congratulations, Jackie, on your well-deserved retirement! Thank you for nearly four decades of service, leadership, advocacy, and compassion. Your presence at Bryce Hospital will truly be missed, but the impact of your work will continue for many years to come.

Today, we honor and celebrate an extraordinary woman, Deborah Marks, on her retirement after 47 years of faithful and dedicated service to the State of Alabama. What an incredible legacy of commitment, compassion, and leadership.

As Director of Human Resources, Deborah has been so much more than a leader — she has been a source of encouragement, wisdom, kindness, and positivity to everyone blessed to cross her path. No matter the circumstance, she always had a caring heart, a loving spirit, and words that could uplift even the hardest days.

Forty-seven years of service is rare. Forty-seven years of serving people with grace, humility, and genuine love is truly remarkable. Her impact cannot be measured by titles alone, because the lives she touched and the hearts she inspired will forever speak for her.

Deborah, thank you for the countless sacrifices, the guidance, the laughter, and the light you brought into the workplace every single day. You have truly made a difference, and your presence will be deeply missed.

Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement. May this next chapter bring you peace, happiness, good health, and every blessing life has to offer. You have earned it all and so much more. ❤️
