Betty Jo Lowery Jeffreys, 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in Florence, Alabama.

Betty was born on December 23, 1940, in Leighton, Alabama, to Grace Helen Quinn Lowery and John Henry Lowery. A devoted Christian, she loved the Lord and her family deeply. Her faith was evident throughout her life in the love, kindness, and hospitality she extended to others.

Betty found great joy in teaching and devoted 35 years to educating generations of children as a sixth-grade teacher at Leighton Elementary School. She treasured her students and the opportunity to make a lasting difference in their lives.

A gracious and welcoming host, Betty loved entertaining and cooking for others. She especially enjoyed gatherings with her family and friends, all of whom she held dear. She had a gift for making everyone who entered her home feel welcome and loved.

Betty was a member of the Leighton Civic Club and a faithful member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. She served the Lord and her church family as the church organist, in the children’s ministry, and as a women’s Sunday School teacher.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Hillard Ray Jeffreys of Leighton; her parents, Grace Helen Quinn Lowery and John Henry Lowery; her brothers, Marlon Owen Lowery and Marvin Henry Lowery; and her sister, Patricia Ann Lowery, all of Leighton.

Betty is survived by her brother, Marion Edwin Lowery (Cynthia) of Tuscaloosa; four nieces, Mia Lowery Craft (Jeff) of Muscle Shoals, Grace Lowery Oakes of Leighton, TeLowa Lowery McCaghren (Mark) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Elizabeth Lowery Saffle (Ryan) of Brentwood, Tennessee; one nephew, John Harrison Lowery (Rebecca) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; four great-nephews, four great-nieces, and two great-great-nieces; her foster daughter, Saquanna Dawn Carrillo (Dan) of Hatley, Wisconsin; and many cherished family members and friends.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Valley Grove Baptist Church, 2040 Old Highway 20, Tuscumbia, Alabama. A celebration of Betty’s life will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m., with burial afterward.

The family extends a special, heartfelt thank-you to Emma Thompson, Pearl Terry, Kay Luna, Patsy and Wendell Johnson, Diane and Ed Ford, Rusty Harper, Penny Townsend, Monica Jeffreys, Norma Hallmark, Denise Rutherford, Ms. Betty’s Sunday School class, Matt McClain of SouthernCare New Beacon, Clearview Cancer Institute, North Alabama Medical Center, and Florence Rehabilitation and Wellness Center for the kindness, care, and support they provided to Betty and her family.

Active Pallbearers will be Harrison Lowery, Jeff Craft, Rusty Harper, Mark McCaghen, Tyler McCaghen, Reaves Saffle, Ryan Saffle, Andrew Craft, and David Craft. Honorary pallbearers will be Kay Luna, Diann and Ed Ford, Patsy and Wendell Johnson, Emma Thompson, Pearl Terry, Brenda and Johnny Nixon, and the members of Mrs. Betty’s Sunday School Class- Valley Grove Baptist Church.

Betty will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know and love her.

Sharon Gale Shinholster Scogin, 71, passed away peacefully at her home in Killen, AL on August 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. The family will receive friends and family at Colbert Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a service celebrating Sharon's Life to begin at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Harvey Cemetery in Rogersville, AL.

Sharon was many things to many people, a beloved mother, a treasured MiMi, a devoted sister, a caring nurse and a loyal friend. But above all, she was someone who made people feel loved, cared for, and important. As a nurse, Sharon dedicated her life to caring for others. Her compassion, strength, and gentle spirit touched countless lives. Caring for people came naturally to her and she brought the same love and devotion home to her family. Her greatest joy was being a mother and MiMi. She was the kind of mother and MiMi whose love could be felt in the smallest things, the hugs, the stories, the laughter, the encouragement, and the memories.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father Leavie Jefferson Shinholster, Jr.; mother, Vera Mae Booth Shinholster; and her former husband George Allan Scogin, Jr, with whom she shared 36 years of marriage.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory daughters, Selena Gurley (Tony), Killen, AL and Stephanie Markham (Todd), Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Kyle Gurley, Collin Gurley, Clay Gurley, Lawson Ledbetter, and Harper Ledbetter; brother, Richie Shinholster (Debbie) Booneville MS; nephews, James King (Stephanie), San Antonio, TX, John Shinholster, Tuscaloosa, AL; niece, Mollie Shinholster Luetze (Simon), Tuscaloosa, AL; many great-nephews and nieces. Special friends and family members Lisa Hall, Donna Phillips, Penny Logston and Micah Ledbetter.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Gurley, Collin Gurley, Clay Gurley, Lawson Ledbetter, John Shinholster, and Keinan Mendez. Honorary pallbearers will be the many nurses and doctors that had the privilege of working alongside Sharon.

Roger enjoyed a career in education teaching German. He cherished traveling to Germany with his family and students, creating lasting memories and bringing the classroom to life through shared experiences. Roger’s enthusiasm touched many lives, and he will be dearly missed by his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Chester and Mildred Hunt; brothers, David Hunt, Robert Hunt.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marlene Hunt; children, Eric Hunt, Kevin Hunt; step-children, Lisa Kreiger, Lori Choquette, Janine Aldridge, Jeff Beidl; siblings, Tom Hunt, Jan Pirkle; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Calvin and Dora Lee Akins; aunt, Jane Phillips; brother, Wes Akins; husband, S.D. Logan; husband, Bobby Shelton; and bonus daughter, Bonnie James.

She is survived by her sons, Jeff Logan, David Logan (Marilyn), and Eric Logan (Sharna); bonus daughters, Diane Barnes and Anita Pickering (Steve); brother, Ralph Akins (Sue); special brother-in-law, Maurice Logan; grandchildren, Lucas, Allison, Hillary, Erica, Haley, Bailey, and Jake; bonus grands, Amy Beth, Kenedi, Heath, Brooke, Wendell, and Monica; and several great-grandchildren.

Patricia (Pat) Keenum Barnett was called Home on August 13, 2026, at the age of 81. She passed peacefully in her home in Muscle Shoals, AL, surrounded by loved ones.

Pat was born on September 7, 1944, in Tuscumbia, AL. She was a graduate of Deshler High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of North Alabama, her Master's degree from Athens State, and an EdS degree in educational leadership from the University of Alabama. She spent the first 20 years of her career teaching elementary students at various grade levels. However, she would always say that her “true passion” was teaching reading to first-grade students. Her knowledge and experience in early childhood education prepared her for the principal position at Howell Graves Preschool in Muscle Shoals. Pat advocated for the importance of early childhood education and spent 17 years creating a positive climate and culture that has had lasting effects on the students, parents, and faculty of Howell Graves Preschool.

Pat was devoted to her family. Nothing gave her more pleasure than spending time with her extended family. As a lifelong educator, she made sure to instill the love of learning in her children and grandchildren. Pat was described as independent, determined, loyal, generous, and loving. She was the backbone of her family, and her unconditional love for each of them will be missed but never forgotten.

Pat had other passions as well. She loved the outdoors, traveling, reading, painting, and Alabama football. You could find her on Fall Saturdays watching and cheering for Bama either at the stadium or in her living room surrounded by her family and friends.

Pat is preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Talmadge Keenum; her mother, Martha Adell Keenum; her brother, Talmadge Marion Keenum; and her sister, Martha Jane Sharp (Odell).

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Achord (Kelly); her son, Chad Barnett (Tracie); her grandchildren; and many other family members.

The service will be held on Saturday, August 15, at Colbert Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 12-2, the funeral service at 2, and the graveside immediately following.

She was a member of Muscle Shoals Baptist Church. Dessie helped in the church and on the food committee for several years and loved her ladies Sunday School Class and fellowshipping with her church members.

She was preceded in death by her father, John W. Posey; mother, Susie Pounders Posey; husband, Shelton Prince; eleven brothers and sisters; and a great grandchild, Sage Spires.

She is survived by her sons, Allen Pace (Dorenda), Tony Pace (Paige), and Larry Pace (Stacy); sister, Joyce Guebert Sanders (Jim); grandchildren, Jessica Alcala, Paige Atencio (Eric), Tyler Pace (Sarahbeth), Mikayla Sparks (Hayden), Karley Pace (CJ), and Savanna Spires (Devin); eleven great-grandchildren.
