✨ Let’s talk about hormone replacement therapy — and why it can be so beneficial for women.
As the chart shows, estrogen and egg count naturally decline with age, especially around the menopause transition. At the same time, risks related to bone loss, cardiovascular health, metabolic changes, and cognitive concerns can begin to rise.
Hormone replacement therapy, also called menopausal hormone therapy, can help support women through this transition by addressing the hormone changes that drive many symptoms and long-term health concerns.
For many women, HRT may help with:
🌿 Hot flashes and night sweats
🌿 Sleep disruption
🌿 Mood changes and irritability
🌿 Vaginal dryness and discomfort
🌿 Bone loss and osteoporosis prevention
🌿 Overall quality of life during perimenopause and menopause
The Menopause Society notes that hormone therapy remains the most effective treatment for hot flashes, night sweats, and genitourinary symptoms of menopause, and it has been shown to help prevent bone loss and fractures. ACOG also recognizes systemic estrogen therapy as the best treatment for hot flashes and night sweats, while helping protect against early menopausal bone loss.
The key is personalization. HRT is not “one size fits all.” The benefits and risks depend on your age, symptoms, health history, timing, and the type of therapy used. For many healthy women under 60 or within 10 years of menopause, the benefit-risk ratio may be favorable when there are no contraindications.
Women deserve accurate information, not fear-based medicine. Menopause is not something we simply have to “push through.” Support exists, options exist, and informed conversations matter.
If you’re experiencing symptoms or wondering whether HRT is right for you, talk with a menopause-informed provider who can help you understand your options.
