Check out Dr. Nikita reviewing an active sciatic nerve glide!

The sciatic nerve is a very large and important nerve that provides function to your entire lower body. Due to the size and magnitude of this nerve, it is very common that it can get impinged somewhere along its pathway and cause pain anywhere from your low back down to the bottom of your foot.

Nerves need blood flow, mobility, and room to breathe to do their job. This is something we always assess in the clinic to differentiate muscle tightness from nerve restrictions.

If you think you may have sciatica or symptoms that resemble this, we are here to help you!

To go deeper or work with us, you can access us in one of three ways:
⭐️ In person in one of our Orange County clinics (Tustin or Mission Viejo)
⭐️ Online via a telehealth session.
⭐️ Through our out-of-town program.

The male pelvic floor is more than just muscles. It plays a critical role in bladder control, bowel function, sexual health, erections, ej*******on, core stability, and even pelvic pain.

In this video, Dr. Julie breaks down male pelvic floor anatomy using a pelvic model to help you better understand what’s happening beneath the surface.

Many men are surprised to learn that symptoms like pelvic pain, urinary urgency, constipation, painful ej*******on, erectile dysfunction, or pressure in the pelvis can be connected to dysfunction within the pelvic floor.

Understanding the anatomy is often the first step toward finding the right treatment and getting answers.

Did you know that what happens on the outside of the pelvis influences what happens on the inside?

In fact, when it comes to a hypertonic pelvic floor, if you don’t figure out the external muscles influencing the internal ones, you won’t get the same results in getting the pelvic floor to relax.

One example of a hip muscle that influences the pelvic floor is the piriformis. This is often known as a literal “pain in the butt” when it gets angry. We call this muscle an associated pelvic floor muscle as you can actually reach it internally!

This muscle runs from the sacrum to the hip & rotates the hip outward into external rotation.

Did you know?

If the piriformis muscle is short & tight, it can:

✨Cause compression on the pudendal & sciatic nerves

✨Cause pain in the lower back, hip and pelvis

✨Send pain down the back of the leg & even down to the foot

So what to do?

✨Find a pelvic floor therapist who knows how to treat this muscle, both externally and internally.

✨Not only release this muscle, but figure out why it became angry in the first place!!! For example - if you are walking poorly because of weakness in the foot, this muscle can turn on more than it should!

The piriformis is a small muscle with a BIG role in how your hip, pelvis, and pelvic floor function. 🍑

It helps stabilize the hip and rotate the femur, but when it becomes overactive or irritated, it can contribute to deep buttock pain, sitting pain, hip restriction, and sometimes symptoms that travel down the leg.

And here’s the important part: piriformis pain isn’t always just a “tight muscle.”

Its relationship with the sciatic nerve, pelvic floor, sacrum, hip mechanics, and surrounding muscles can all influence symptoms.

That’s why simply stretching the piriformis isn’t always the answer. Sometimes we need to look at why it’s working so hard in the first place.

Swipe through to learn more about the piriformis and how it can relate to pelvic and hip symptoms.

The female pelvic floor is so much more than just a group of muscles.

It plays a vital role in bladder control, bowel function, sexual health, core stability, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and pelvic pain.

In this video, Dr. Alexa walks you through female pelvic floor anatomy using a pelvic model to help you better understand what’s happening beneath the surface.

Many women are surprised to learn that symptoms like urinary leakage, urgency, constipation, painful in*******se, pelvic pressure, low back pain, tailbone pain, or difficulty returning to exercise can be connected to pelvic floor dysfunction.

Understanding your anatomy is one of the most empowering first steps toward finding answers and getting the right treatment.

Persistent tension in the inner thighs isn’t always just a muscle issue.

The obturator nerve, which runs through the pelvis and supplies the adductors, can contribute to tightness or discomfort when irritated or restricted.

An obturator nerve glide is a gentle technique used to restore mobility and reduce sensitivity in the nerve, which can help the adductors relax more effectively.

It’s a targeted, nervous system-based approach that supports deeper and more lasting relief… especially when traditional stretching isn’t enough.

Always consult a pelvic health professional to determine what’s appropriate for your body.
