What a phenomenal Childbirth Education class tonight. Talking about what “out of hospital” birth looks like and asking all the questions ! Drawing funny pictures (like normal) Preparing always makes the last part of the pregnancy an exciting time. The best part is we made new friends and we were so proud of a soon to be new dad who came alone because His wife was out of town and he knew it was important to learn how to support her. Kayla and I loved tonight and look forward to part two next week. (And only one person was hit with a birthing ping pong ball ). ’allaremissingout

The Midwives of this region recently engaged in an enlightening learning and training session on Newborn Hearing Screening, emphasizing its paramount significance. It is noteworthy that infants commence language development within the initial month of life. Early intervention emerges as the most effective strategy to ensure that children have the utmost potential for success. Furthermore, it is crucial to recognize that the neglect of hearing can lead to its complete loss.

Fortunately, we now have the opportunity to provide the first hearing screening for newborns within our community, facilitating referrals to audiologists and essential resources for optimal outcomes.

However, we face a logistical challenge. The region is equipped with only one hearing screening machine. This limitation poses a significant obstacle to providing comprehensive care to the approximately 200-300 community births annually.

To address this issue, we are seeking your support through fundraising efforts. We require approximately 6,000 to 7,000 dollars for each hearing screening machine. If we could secure even one additional machine, it would be a substantial contribution. However, the acquisition of several machines would be even more beneficial.

An additional machine would be particularly valuable as it would enable us to send one to Uganda, where our sweet Cami could provide for so many children there

We sincerely appreciate your fund raising ideas and support in this endeavor. We know this will make a significant difference in the lives of local families and ensure that every newborn receives the necessary hearing screening and support.
