Not because weight gain isn’t important - it absolutely is.
But because I hate how dismissive this statement can be.
It often shuts down the conversation when parents are saying, “Something still doesn’t feel right.”
I’ve worked with babies who were gaining weight but were also:
• feeding every hour
• coughing or sputtering at the breast
• causing their mom significant pain
• transferring milk inefficiently
• struggling with reflux symptoms
• leaving parents completely exhausted
A baby can gain weight and still have a feeding problem worth addressing.
👋 Hi! If we’re new here, I’m Kailey Warburton, RN, IBCLC. I help overwhelmed new moms confidently feed their babies - whether breast, bottle, or both - so they can feel calm, supported, and empowered in their feeding journey.
If your gut is telling you something isn’t right, don’t let “they’re gaining weight” be the end of the conversation.
A comprehensive feeding assessment looks at the whole picture - not just the number on the scale.
