๐ŸŒธ Still breaking out in your 30s (or 40s)? You're not alone โ€” and it's not just "bad skin."

Adult acne is more common than ever, and it doesn't always show up where you'd expect. Instead of the T-zone breakouts of your teenage years, adult acne often shows up along the jawline and chin โ€” deeper, more inflamed, and slower to heal.

The usual suspects? ๐Ÿ”๏ฟฝ

The good news: it's treatable. Our team gets to the root cause โ€” not just the surface symptoms โ€” before building your treatment plan.

๐Ÿชž You've been treating the wrong problem.

If your skin has felt different lately โ€” and nothing you're buying seems to be helping โ€” this is for you.

Most women in their 40s and 50s spend years cycling through new moisturizers, serums, and treatments trying to fix what's happening to their skin. And most of it doesn't work. Not because the products are bad. Because the problem isn't on the surface.

It's estrogen.

When estrogen drops during perimenopause and menopause, it sets off a chain reaction your skincare routine was never designed to address:

๐Ÿ’ง Your skin loses its ability to hold moisture from the inside โ€” not because you need a better moisturizer, but because estrogen is what triggers hyaluronic acid production in the first place.

๐Ÿ“‰ Collagen production slows dramatically. Women lose nearly a third of their skin's collagen in just the first five years after menopause โ€” which is why changes can feel sudden rather than gradual.

๐Ÿ”ด Blood vessels become more reactive, causing flushing, redness, and rosacea flares that seem to come out of nowhere โ€” often made worse by the hot flashes themselves.

๐ŸŒ€ Melanin production becomes erratic, triggering melasma and dark patches that SPF alone won't reverse.

๐Ÿ˜ค And perhaps most frustrating of all โ€” jawline breakouts. In your 40s. Because as estrogen falls, androgens have more influence over your oil glands. Your usual acne products won't touch this kind.

None of this means your skin is beyond help. It means it needs a different kind of help โ€” one that starts with understanding what's actually driving the changes, not just chasing the symptoms.

That's exactly what Dr. Monique Cohn does at Advanced Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery Center in Twinsburg, OH. From prescription skincare and laser treatments to collagen-stimulating procedures and pigment correction โ€” every plan is built around where you are in this transition, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Because your skin isn't broken. It's just in a different chapter. And that chapter is very much treatable.

โœจ Is your skin changing in your 40s or 50s? It's not in your head โ€” it's your hormones.

During perimenopause and menopause, estrogen levels drop, and your skin feels it first. Here's what's actually happening โ€” and what Dr. Monique Cohn at Advanced Dermatology in Twinsburg, OH wants you to know:

๐Ÿ”น Dryness & tightness โ€” Estrogen helps your skin hold onto moisture. Less estrogen = less hyaluronic acid = that persistent dry, rough feeling even if your skin was never dry before.

๐Ÿ”น Loss of firmness & deeper lines โ€” Women lose up to 30% of their skin's collagen in the first five years after menopause. That's not a slow fade โ€” that's a significant structural change, especially around the jaw, neck, and eyes.

๐Ÿ”น Thinner, more fragile skin โ€” Skin that used to bounce back from minor irritation may now bruise more easily or feel reactive and sensitive.

๐Ÿ”น Adult acne โ€” yes, really โ€” Hormonal fluctuations during perimenopause can cause jawline and chin breakouts for the first time in decades. Standard drugstore acne products usually don't touch this kind. It needs a different approach.

๐Ÿ”น Redness & rosacea flares โ€” Estrogen keeps blood vessels stable. When it fluctuates, flushing increases โ€” and repeated hot flashes over time can lead to broken capillaries and persistent redness.

๐Ÿ”น Dark spots & uneven tone โ€” Hormonal shifts make melanin production erratic, worsening sun spots and triggering melasma (those blotchy brown patches).

๐Ÿ”น Hair thinning & unwanted facial hair โ€” As estrogen drops, androgens have more influence. That means more facial hair AND more shedding at the crown. It's frustrating โ€” and treatable.

The good news? Every single one of these changes is addressable. Treatments range from prescription-strength skincare and laser resurfacing to collagen-stimulating procedures, injectables, and targeted pigment correction โ€” all customized to where you are in this transition.

๐Ÿ“ Dr. Cohn and the team at Advanced Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery Center in Twinsburg, OH specialize in exactly this. Medical + cosmetic dermatology, all under one roof, for northeastern Ohio women navigating every stage of hormonal change.
