Welcome, Baby Boy! 💙

Your father called in the watches of the night. “Her water just broke!” he joyfully announced with some hesitation mixed in. I could hear your mother breathe beside him, smiling as she told me how she was feeling.
I immediately grabbed my scrubs as we hung up with a plan for your father to call me back. I didn’t even have them on when he called me back. “Colleen. They are intense and I think you should come now.”
“Alright! I want to be there!”
Your grandmother and father set up the birth tub and could tell things were moving fast. When I arrived, your mother and father were holding onto one another. Your father leaned over the tub and was the anchor she so needed when the waves of contractions came. Her breath was steady and all we could hear. You and your mother were working excellently together. Your mother’s doula joined the room minutes later as your mother’s breath changed and your full, beautiful head of hair slowly entered the pool; then your sweet face; and moments later, you were picked up by your mother and father together. They took you in and through tears of joy and strength announced that you were a BOY!
Your cry filled the room as your family rejoiced over you and took you in for the first time.
Your mother got her VBAC and your siblings have a delightful surprise as they wake this morning. Also, little man, your midwife, for the first time ever, have a little birthday buddy! Happy birthday to us!

You and your family can come sit in the comfort of a midwifery clinic and have your little one assessed by our team. Quick, gentle and can be done during a little nap - we are excited to fill this growing need for East Texas home birth families. This is included in our clients care package.
Cost is $55 for non-clients.

Your mother was sitting up in the bed when I returned to check on you both. She smiled at me while saying “This is intense!” while another contraction gathered her attention in its building. She closed her eyes and breathed. Calm. Collected. Poised.
Your father stayed close at hand. “Lord, remind her that you made her for this. Thank you for our daughter. Thank you for this family.” His prayers were over you both as she sunk into the birth pool to find relief.
You were born, with both hands by your face, dark hair, and a gentle spirit. You barely even cried. Eager to nestle against your mother, head up looking for her face, cherished skin to skin with your father. You were caught by your mother and brought up to the surprise of your Dad. He didn’t expect it so quickly. But you were ready.
You are such a little light and you family adores you.

Your mother greeted us with a smile while leaning against your father. Worship music was playing while the tub was being filled and your mother’s doula provided comfort.
It was calm, peaceful, and yet an eager anticipation of your arrival swept through the home as you worked your way down.
The pool was an instant relief as your mother reminded herself “I can do this!” in between singing to the Lord. Your father leaned over the pool and tenderly spoke words of life, love and encouragement while kissing her face. You were born with your arm above your head, almost as if waving us hello and the widest eyes, just like your sister. Your mother and father brought you up out of the water together and your father wept over seeing you face to face. You have a gentle heart and spirit yet are so strong. You are so very loved by your family.

Your labor with your sweet mama was like a slow Sunday morning. You woke her with your signal in the wee hours of the morning that, after a long wait, you were ready to come. Your mother’s doula made her eggs as we entered the home to see how you all were doing.
You took your time all day, a gentle pace that you have kept this whole pregnancy, but when you were ready, it was lightening fast. Your sweet mama entered the birth pool as worship music played from the dresser. Your father pulled up a chair as your doula continued her support. Your midwives prayed over you and mama for a safe finish. You gently entered the pool and your mother reached down and pulled you to her chest. “Oh thank you, Lord!” she cried out over and over. “Isn’t he beautiful? Don’t you love him?!” she asked your father as he wiped tears from his eyes. You are an eager nurser, a little chatty baby, and oh so squishy. I know your siblings already adore you!

I remember when your parents sat across from me seeking a midwife. Educated, informed, joyful and hopeful of a home birth. They were side by side, every appointment, eager to meet this little mystery face to face.
As the final weeks approached and gently slipped through our fingers, we sat across from each other again. Not to plan a home birth, but to open our hands to a loving Father and surrender that plan to Him. It was time to meet you, but not in the way they envisioned.
Your mother and father were unbelievably steadfast, holding each other and considering every option given. After 2 days in the hospital of a very slow paced induction, more and more of the plan needed to be surrender to bring you safely earthside. Your parents were faithful to each other, to you, and were so patient in the process to gently guide you here.
Your grandmother took notes of every contraction, interaction and kind word spoken; writing your birth story in her own hand and perspective. Her prayers to Jesus were spoken out loud at every opportunity; over every nurse, doctor, decision, bag of fluids. Your father never left your mother’s side. His voice in her ear, gentle touch, warm embrace carried you both to the other side in safety.
Your mother blew every person away as she pushed you out, naturally, in very little time and nursed you immediately. You were championed by staff not even on shift anymore who kept up with reports to see when you would finally arrive.
You are a cherished little love!
