You may be wondering what Clint, Nikki and Fred are so fascinated with in this photo. What they’ve discovered is that Beaver Creek Farm has milkweed! 🦋
Milkweed is native to East Texas, but its numbers have been declining as natural grasslands are lost to development. It thrives in open pastures and prairies—and it plays a very important role in the life cycle of monarch butterflies. Milkweed is the ONLY host plant for monarch caterpillars, providing the food they need to grow. 🐛
Monarch populations have declined significantly over the past few decades, so what a treat for Nikki to discover this life-sustaining plant growing right here on the farm that feeds us fresh meat and eggs.
Yoga reminds us that we are all connected. The milkweed growing in your yard sustains monarch caterpillars, which grow into butterflies that help pollinate the plants and ecosystems around us. 🌎
So if you come across milkweed, don’t mow it down or cut it back. Let it live. Let it provide.
No one is an island. We don’t just need one another—we need the plants, animals, insects and ecosystems that make up the beautiful web of life around us.
We hope you feel connected today. Not only to yourself, but to the world and all the life around you. You are supported in a million ways today. 🤍
