Perform a patch test before use!!!! Here's how.
1. Mix 1 to 2 drops of the essential oil into 1 teaspoon of a skin-safe carrier oil (such as jojoba oil, almond oil, or fractionated coconut oil). This creates roughly a 1% to 2% dilution, which is standard for topical application.
2. Prepare the Area
Wash a small patch of skin on your inner forearm or the crook of your elbow with mild soap and water, then pat it completely dry.
3. Apply and CoverDab a tiny, dime-sized amount of the diluted mixture onto the cleaned area. Cover the spot with a standard adhesive bandage (plaster) to protect it and keep it in place. Keep the area completely dry for the duration of the test—avoid swimming, heavy sweating, or washing that specific spot.
4. Wait and Monitor (24 to 48 Hours)Leave the bandage on for 24 to 48 hours.
If you feel immediate burning, severe itching, or stinging:
Remove the bandage right away. Wash the area thoroughly with soap and water. You can apply a plain carrier oil or aloe vera to help soothe the irritation.
If no reaction occurs: Remove the bandage after 48 hours and check the skin one last time.
Reading the Results
Negative Result (Safe): If your skin looks completely normal with no redness, swelling, bumps, or itching, the oil is generally considered safe for you to use at that dilution level.
Positive Result (Allergy/Sensitivity): If you notice redness, swelling, a rash, burning, or itching, you have a sensitivity or allergy to that oil. Discontinue use immediately and do not apply it to your body.
