Can you believe September is already wrapping up? As the seasons shift here in East Texas, our pets' needs change right along with the weather.

Here are a few quick tips as we head into October:
• Flea & Tick Prevention: Even as temperatures cool down, pests remain active. Keep those preventatives going year-round!
• Fall Hazards: As holiday baking approaches, remember that pantry staples like chocolate, grapes, onions, and artificial sweeteners (xylitol) are dangerous for paws.
• Joint Care: Cooler mornings can sometimes make older pets with arthritis a bit stiff. Ask us about joint supplements during your next visit!

🍂 Fall is in the air, pet parents!

As the weather cools down and the leaves change, our autumn routines shift—and so do some seasonal hazards for our furry family members. Keep your pets safe and happy this fall by keeping these common autumn dangers out of reach:

Rodenticides: As the temperature drops, mice and rats look for warm spaces. Instead of using traditional poisons, consider using humane live traps. Chemical rodenticides pose a severe risk not only to curious pets who might find them, but also to local wildlife, birds of prey, and other animals that may ingest a poisoned rodent.

Acorns & Conkers: While crunching through leaves is fun, eating acorns, chestnuts, or fallen tree nuts can cause severe stomach upset, blockages, or even toxicity in dogs.

Wild Mushrooms: Cooler, damp autumn weather brings out a variety of wild mushrooms. Many are harmless, but some can be extremely toxic to pets. It’s best to keep a close eye on your dogs during walks in wooded or damp areas.

Antifreeze: As people prep their vehicles for colder weather, leaks or spills of engine coolant/antifreeze become a major risk. Antifreeze has a sweet taste that tragically attracts pets, but even small amounts can cause severe, life-threatening kidney failure.
