One of my favorite parts of this work is watching fathers step into their role during labor and birth. The support, encouragement, and love they provide can make all the difference when we hear “I can’t do this anymore!”

Birth may center around the mother and baby, but don’t underestimate the importance of your role and presence! Thank y’all for showing up, taking the birth classes, reading the books, and understanding that being the best dad starts in pregnancy!

So, to all the dads doing endless hip squeezes, refilling water bottles, timing contractions, readying birth pools, holding hands, holding puke bags, attempting to put hair up, and catching the first round of mec, we see and appreciate you!

Happy Father’s Day 💙

And special shout out to my hunky husband who was always A1 birth support, who holds the fort down while I’m catching babies, and who is such a champion of home birthing. Thankful for all you do for these weirdos we created 🤟🏻💜.

Shout out the dad in your life below, and let me know how they made a difference in your pregnancy, birth, or postpartum!

📣 Myth VS. Fact 📣

At the end of pregnancy, things can become a little… damp. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if it’s just watery discharge, if your water broke, or if you just p*ed a little (or a lot).

This graphic is a good starting point to help when you’re playing the “what’s that liquid” game. One thing I would add/change though is that p*e doesn’t always smell strong or ammonia like, especially if you’re well hydrated.

🦄 Myth: “If your water breaks, you’ll always have a huge gush of fluid.”

✅ Fact: Sometimes it’s a dramatic gush, but many people experience a slow trickle, intermittent leaking, or repeated small gushes. It will also continue to leak until you’ve given birth. So staying hydrated is important to keeping it replenished!

What pregnancy or birth myth have you heard that you’d like clarified?

Not human birth related, but how can you not love this 🥹😍. The last pic is the best! Yay for this first time mom and her incredible instincts. And yay for her care team giving her space to let her body and instincts work. 🙌🏻🥰

If you’ve been in my office in the last few days, you’ve no doubt already met Aelin. For those that haven’t yet, meet my new office cat 😂🥰.

I rescued her on Thursday and since she’s a bottle baby, she will be in office with us for the foreseeable future.

When she’s not being worn in my shirt like a baby, her office duties entail snuggling, pouncing, scaling, boosting oxytocin, and maybe some admin work 😜.

Welcome to ETBC, Aelin 🧡

Happy Mother’s Day! 💐

Here’s some “then and now” of me and my babies! I’m so thankful to be their momma, even on the days they make me crazy!

I’d love to see your “then and now” pictures of baby bumps or birth through where they are now. Especially if I caught them 😉

I hope that your day is full of peace, kisses, and joy!

And for those who are mourning the loss of their own mommas, or their babies, I’m holding you extra close today 💜. They are not forgotten and neither are you.

Happy International Day of the Midwife to all the wise women who came before me, and walk along side me!

Today is always a huge day of reflection for me. I am forever in awe that I get to do this work. That I get to serve these families. I never take for granted the privilege and trust given to me, and the honor it is to be “with woman”.

So here’s to the highest highs of redemptive births, and the lowest lows of mourning. Every bit of it matters. Every bit of it requires love and holding space.

This year feels a little extra special since I got the absolute pleasure to meet and learn with so many international midwives recently. It really reconnected me to the heart of this work, and the struggles we all face. My prayer is that I get to do it again around this time next year!

A lot has changed in midwifery for me and my practice over the past year, and it’s continuing to evolve even now. I’m excited to see where this year takes me! 🥰

Enjoying a few days of time off with my sweet family before the summer babies start joining us 💜

FYI, if you’re a former client of mine… take a pregnancy test! 😂😂😂 THREE TIMES this year I randomly thought about a past client and within a week I got a text that they were pregnant again 🥹🥰. One was literally within 2 hours. It’s been the craziest thing, but seriously what incredible blessings to get to love on families multiple times!

I’m curious though, if you’re a birth worker, have you had this happen to you??
