Movement is medicine. Breath is medicine. ✨
A lot of the time in the past 6 years I was stuck feeling very overwhelmed and in fight-or-flight mode. I had a hard time making time for movement and exercise due to all of the responsibilities, bodily changes, pregnancies, nursing journeys, work, house work, momming, schooling, etc.
Sometimes it is easy to either push something to the side and think because you’re doing these other things it’s not needed. Or make excuses due to being busy. Or be in such fight-or-flight that you literally cannot talk your own brain into believing you have time to add in these things.
Over time I have realized once my hormones have settled a bit that I really needed to work on my nervous system and healing the gut (which I bet 95% of people also could use work in this area). With this, I was able to calm my nervous system, lower my fight-or-flight response, and begin adding movement back in. Which in turn actually helps my nervous system even more because how better to calm the nervous system than movement, grounding, and breathing!?
Here I am doing a hip flexor stretch the other day on one of my first workouts since my last nursing journey. Now that I don’t have to pump I have no excuse but to make this time to add in some movement and continue the healing process. I may be working out by slinging kids around all day, but sometimes these other movements and time to yourself is a game changer.
What sort of things have you used as an excuse? How did you feel once you finally committed this time back to yourself? 💪🏻
