Today I'd like to talk a little about garlic, well-known and often used in cooking. Garlic has many healing properties, some of which are resolving toxins, eliminating worms/parasites, and targeting respiratory issues and coughs. During the cold winter months, it can be taken daily to warm the body and prevent seasonal illness. It's best consumed raw for optimal therapeutic results - chopped and sprinkled on soups and stews after they're cooked - and is especially helpful for people with respiratory challenges. An excellent ally during these pandemic times!

Fennel seed is another wonderful herb that's easy to obtain and fun to use in soups, stews and rice or quinoa dishes. It is warming, relieves pain and harmonizes the digestion, entering the liver, kidney, spleen and stomach channels. In Germany, where herbs have their everyday place in many households, fennel tea is often given to babies with colic ~ and to adults with digestive issues.

Black pepper can be added to soups, stews and chai; and I like to encourage people who consume cold smoothies and raw salads to add this spice to the recipe to prevent these cold-natured foods from dampening or injuring the spleen and stomach functions.

It's wintertime ~ even though the sun is shining! During this season, we need warming herbs and spices to maintain our vitality and immunity. Some of these are very common in the kitchen, including black pepper, cinnamon, fennel seed, dried ginger, and garlic. Cooking or baking with these is easy, and enhances the flavors of many dishes while warming the meridians and the body itself and helping the digestive system function effectively.
