She was thrilled at how quickly she transformed her pain through loving kindness!
M. had an interaction with an old friend and was taken aback how quickly things deteriorated. It started out kindly, but quickly escalated when the friend shut her down for asking a question about her life telling M., in a harsh tone, that it was none of her business. Discussion over!
M. could feel old pain arising, like a child part of her being reprimanded. She felt misunderstood and not liked, which she always hated, causing feelings of shame and sadness. M. felt unseen, angry and hurt and wanted to lash out or over-explain herself.
I suggested she try this loving kindness meditation for her inner hurt parts, nurturing herself with the understanding and love she needed. She began the daily practice, and when we next met she told me she no longer felt triggered by the interaction with her friend. In fact, she felt spacious, lighter, connected to her compassionate, loving and confident self.
As M. healed further, she started doing loving kindness practice for her friend as well. The pain in her heart she had felt between the two of them dissolved. It wasn’t important to be understood or liked. She could hold herself and her friend in love, and let go. It was remarkably freeing.
Where could you use this loving kindness meditation for healing, for yourself, for others, for the sake of your relationships and the world? Give it a try!
