Melinda K. Sutton-Griffin, DNP, RN-BC, GERO-BC, PMHNP-BC
Dr. Sutton-Griffin is a psychiatric nurse practitioner. She holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Alabama Birmingham and is board certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an Gerontological Nurse (GERO-BC) as well as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). She is qualified to diagnose, treat and prescribe medication for children, adolescents, and adults. Some of her practice specialties include (but not limited to) ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Panic Attacks and Insomnia. Dr. Sutton-Griffin’s style of practice can be traditional (prescribing up to date psychiatric medications) or alternative medicine (natural treatments including but not limited to vitamins, supplements, lifestyle modification, nutrition, exercise and stress management).
She began her training at Wallace State Community College fulfilling the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) requirements. She continued her education at the University of Alabama Huntsville (UAH) where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), She went on to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctorate of Science Nursing (DNP) from the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB).
For over 30 years, Dr. Sutton-Griffin has cared for patients of all ages in a variety of settings, including inpatient hospitals, community group homes, and outpatient settings. She has had the privilege of working in many practice areas including psychiatry, obstetrics/gynecology, women’s surgery, plastics, neonatal, pediatrics, and medical/surgical. She has dedicated the majority of her nursing career working with mental health patients.
Dr. Sutton-Griffin specializes in behavioral health and treating children, adolescents and adults with intellectual disabilities and complex medical and behavioral conditions. She provides compassionate, and comprehensive mental health services across the lifespan. Dr. Sutton-Griffin possesses strong clinical skills, enhanced by her natural ability to build rapport with client’s and families. She follows evidence-based guidelines blended with clinical experience, personal observation, and intuition. In addition, she has gained extensive experience delivering telehealth services to patients improving access to care. As a provider Dr. Sutton-Griffin values interdisciplinary education and inter-professional collaboration for a whole person, patient centered approach to health and healthcare.
