It is here.

Episode 5 of Unburdening is live now.

Ketamine has a complicated reputation. It was developed in the 1960s as an anesthetic, and today it is being studied and used as a treatment for depression that has not responded to other options.

In this episode, Clare Welsh talks with Katie McAneny, CRNP, PMHNP-BC, a psychiatric provider at Mount North trained in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. Katie explains what the treatment is, how it affects the brain, why it is paired with therapy, and who may be a good fit.

If you or someone you love has tried everything and still feels stuck, this conversation is worth your time.

Daylight saving time ends this Sunday, November 1, and for a lot of people the early darkness hits harder than expected.

Feeling a bit sluggish in the shorter days is common. But if your mood drops the same way every fall, with low energy, oversleeping, cravings, and pulling away from the people and things you love, it may be seasonal depression. It is real, it is common, and it is treatable.

If you notice this pattern in yourself, now is the time to get support, before the darkest months arrive.

A reminder for anyone in Clearfield County: you do not have to drive far for psychiatric care.

Mount North’s Curwensville office offers psychiatric care and medication management, close to home. Appointments are longer by design, so there is time to actually be heard, and our providers work as a team with our therapists, so medication is never the whole plan.

Telehealth medication management is also available anywhere in Pennsylvania.

If someone you know has been waiting for care close to home, share this with them.

If your 40s have brought anxiety, irritability, or low moods you do not recognize, you are not alone, and you are not imagining it.

Perimenopause can begin years before periods stop, and the hormonal shifts that come with it can have a real impact on mental health. Too often, these symptoms get brushed off as stress or simply getting older.

Yesterday was World Menopause Day, a good reminder that this stage of life deserves real care. At Mount North, our psychiatric providers and therapists work together, so medication is never the whole plan. Care is available in person in Johnstown or Curwensville, or through telehealth across Pennsylvania.

OCD is one of the most misunderstood conditions in mental health.

It is not a preference for things being tidy. It is a cycle of unwanted, distressing thoughts and the rituals a person feels driven to perform to quiet them. Some of those rituals are visible. Many happen silently, inside someone's head, which is why OCD so often goes unrecognized.

If any of this sounds familiar, you deserve support from people who understand how OCD actually works. Mount North offers therapy and psychiatric care in Johnstown and Curwensville, and telehealth anywhere in Pennsylvania.

Depression does not always look the way we expect it to.

It can look like irritability, numbness, exhaustion, or a person who keeps everything running while feeling empty inside. Because it does not match the picture most of us carry, it often goes unnamed for years.

This week is Mental Illness Awareness Week, and Thursday, October 8 is National Depression Screening Day. Mental Health America offers a free, anonymous online screening at mhanational.org. A screening is not a diagnosis, but it can be a clear first step toward a real conversation.

If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline.

It is here.

Episode 4 of Unburdening is live now.

We are living longer than any generation before us. U.S. life expectancy has reached an all-time high. In one generation, average lifespan increased by nearly a decade.

But are we actually living those years well?

In Episode 4, Clare Welsh explores aging as a distinct stage of human development with its own vital work, and what happens culturally and personally when we skip that work in favor of chasing the appearance of youth. She looks at stories of people who embraced the final chapter of their lives with courage and authenticity, and the ripple effect they left behind.

She is joined by Emily Brick, LPC, licensed therapist at Mount North and specialist in gerontology, who shares what she has learned from years of working with adults 65 and older, and what aging well actually looks like in practice.

This episode will make you think differently about the second half of life.
