Know that rest isn’t just sleeping or laying around on the couch vegging out to Netflix all day.
While there are days that call for just that, there are actually 7 different types of rest:
Physical rest gives the body a chance to heal & repair. It can actually be active (stretching) or passive (napping).
We need mental rest because our brains are overloaded & overwhelmed. Make sure you are taking time throughout your day to let your brain chill by pausing, slowing down, being present, processing your thoughts, & recalibrating.
Spiritual rest is leaning more into our spiritual life rather than taking a break from it. Find a church community to fellowship & connect with, make time to sit with God & pray, study & meditate on the Word, & find some way/somewhere to serve others.
Emotional rest is necessary for us to process & release our emotions, whether that be by ourselves or with people that we trust & can be our true, authentic self with.
Sensory rest can look like removing external stimuli that are overstimulating or incorporating sensory activities that are soothing like aromatherapy, eating warm comfort foods, soaking in the tub, etc.
Social rest doesn’t necessarily mean cutting off all social interaction. It can also look like spending time with people who bring our soul joy & add value to our life, as well as creating healthy boundaries with people who drain our energy.
Creative rest is learning how to appreciate the beauty around us. It’s a great way to restore the awe & wonder within us. Know that it doesn’t necessarily mean producing. It can simply be marveling the world around you.
How do plan to incorporate more rest into your life?
