When life breaks you, it is because you are ready to be put back together differently.

Every piece of you that feels shattered is a piece that will find a new place, a new purpose, a new meaning.

Trust that the cracks are where the light gets in. And sometimes, in our brokenness, we find our greatest wholeness.

We find the courage to rebuild, to reimagine, to redefine what it means to be strong.

You are not broken; you are breaking through.

I always tell my patients…nothing else matters if you are anemic! No matter what supplements or other recommendations you take/follow, if you’re anemic, your brain will suffer greatly.

A full anemia panel is a must as this is the first priority in treating cognitive decline.

Many patients are told they have an incurable disease that will continue to get worse and that their only recourse is to manage it with medication.

Many of these conditions are autoimmune — the research shows they absolutely can be managed through nutritional, lifestyle, and nutraceutical strategies.

While it's true an autoimmune disease is incurable, it can be put into remission. This means you can live with either greatly reduced symptoms or no symptoms and that you have halted or at least greatly slowed the tissue degeneration.

There are no "autoimmunologists" in medicine and both standard and alternative health care suffer from a lack of autoimmune education and understanding. Insurance does not recognize or cover autoimmune treatments until the most advanced stages.

As a result, patients suffer.

When it comes to autoimmunity, the patients who take on their own education and care have the best outcomes. This will help you choose qualified practitioners, discern good care from inexperienced, and feel empowered and motivated to manage your condition.

Research has shown that many gluten-intolerant people cross-react with other foods. In other words, their body erroneously recognizes other foods as gluten and reacts with an immune response that destroys not only the food proteins but also body tissue.

Not surprisingly, most grains fall into the category of the top 24 foods most often to cause cross-reactivity, including amaranth and quinoa.

Other cross-reactive foods include dairy, chocolate, and sesame. Fortunately, it is now possible to test which foods might provoke a cross-reaction to gluten with the Cyrex Labs Array 4 - Gluten-Associated Cross-Reactive Foods & Foods Sensitivity test at www.toniforsyth.com

We all think of water as something we need just to keep our bodies hydrated and working well. What most people don’t realize is that being hydrated is important to support our immune resilience. When you become dehydrated, this impacts the immune system in several ways:
– Communication between immune cells becomes compromised.
– Biochemical pathways in the immune system become less efficient.
– Changes in blood volume compromise communication between the lymphatic system and different immune messengers throughout the body.

FALSE. Removing the thyroid gland is like taking chewing gum off the sole of your shoe. There will always be remnant tissue in the body. The inflammatory autoimmune response persists in the body despite part of the gland being removed. Therefore, anti-inflammatory treatment protocols need to remain a priority.

Proper protein intake is indeed crucial for a healthy immune response. Protein insufficiency can deplete immunity. The ideal protein intake is around 1 gram per pound of body weight, no less than .5.

Protein deficiency can result in slow healing of injuries, loss of muscle mass, muscle weakness, difficulty recovering from exercise, hair loss, weak nails, and unhealthy skin. Protein plays a critical role in the synthesis of protein messengers and the function of immunoglobulins IgA, IgM, IgG, and IgE, all of which are vital components of the immune system.

Low protein intake can make it challenging to recover from infections or chronic conditions.

Fats, particularly essential fatty acids, support immune function and protect immune barriers. Prostaglandins derived from fatty acids play a crucial role in modulating various immune cells and pathways. The importance of maintaining a balanced diet that includes healthy fats along with adequate protein intake is emphasized to ensure optimal immune system function.

The pancreas relies on the acidity of foods coming from the stomach to trigger the release of digestive enzymes. However, many people have overly low stomach acid.

As a result, the pancreas is not sufficiently activated to release enzymes. The result is poor food digestion, which causes inflammation and damage throughout the digestive tract.

What are the symptoms of low pancreatic enzymes?

Difficulty digesting fibers and starches such as vegetables, fruits, beans, rice. Bloating within the first one to two hours after eating them. Possible pain and tenderness in the left side of your rib cage.

Other factors can cause pancreatic enzyme deficiency, but this is a common one. - Dr. Kharrazian

Multiple chronic diseases have been linked to endotoxemia. It increases the risk of death in people with sepsis, ages you faster, and is commonly seen in patients with chronic symptoms.

Endotoxemia is a result of LPS (lipopolysaccharides), the byproducts of harmful bacteria, making their way into the bloodstream from the gut due to leaky gut. You can screen for this through Cyrex Labs.

Once inside the bloodstream, they trigger significant inflammation throughout the body.

Endotoxemia is linked with major depressive disorder, autoimmunity, joint disease, skin problems, poor immune resilience, difficulty recovering, aging poorly, and more.

In fact, one thing people who live to 100 have in common is low levels of endotoxemia.

This is why an overabundance of unhealthy gut bacteria, or “dysbiosis,” is important to address—you don’t want those bacteria getting past the gut lining into the bloodstream.

Your doctor/provider does not NOT want to help you. So many of the answers to the questions you might ask your regular provider (such as the ones listed below) are found in training and education OUTSIDE conventional medicine. You wouldn’t invite your hair lady over to fix your broken toilet, would you?

“Can you check my nutrient levels to see where I’m deficient and tell me what I need to be taking for that?”

“My hormones feel off, can we check them with my next set of labs?”
[Note: just because someone can order labs does not mean they can manage hormones. Another note: just because someone can prescribe hormones STILL does not mean they can manage hormones appropriately.]

“I heard gut health is critical to health in general. Can you test my gut health?”

“I would like to check a full thyroid panel, can you do that?”

“I feel like I’m full of inflammation. Can you check my levels and help me with that?”

“Does what I eat make a difference to my health? Can you help me with this?”

“Is there a way to get off of my medications (e.g., statins, type 2 diabetes meds, high blood pressure meds)? Can you help me with that?”

“So, everything really looks normal on my labs…why do I feel so bad!?” [note: after doctor/provider checked a basic CBC, CMP and TSH ONLY because that’s all insurance covers]
