Some psychiatric research describes what is known as an โ€œanniversary reaction,โ€ where emotional or stress responses can reappear around the same time of year that a significant emotional event originally occurred.

This means that even when the conscious mind is not actively thinking about a past experience, the body and nervous system may still show subtle shifts in mood, energy, or emotional sensitivity during certain seasons or dates.

Psychologists explain that emotional memory is not stored in a single system. The brain separates narrative memory (what happened) from emotional memory (how it felt). Structures like the hippocampus help store context and sequence, while the amygdala is involved in storing emotional intensity and threat or stress responses.

Because of this separation, environmental cues such as seasonal changes, weather, light, or time of year can sometimes activate stored emotional patterns without a clear conscious trigger.

This does not mean the body is โ€œstuck in the pastโ€ in a literal sense, but rather that emotional learning can be deeply encoded and later reactivated by familiar conditions.

Psychology emphasizes that these responses vary widely between individuals and are often subtle rather than overwhelming.

Sometimes what feels like โ€œrandom heavinessโ€ is the nervous system responding to an old emotional season it still remembers in its own way.

So many people live exhausted because their minds are filled with tomorrowโ€™s worries. The unanswered questions. The uncertain outcomes. The fear of what might happen next. We try to plan every detail and solve problems that have not even arrived yet.

But God gently calls us back to the present.
Back to this moment.
Back to todayโ€™s grace.

His strength is not given months at a time. It is given day by day. Moment by moment. Just enough for what we are facing right now. God never promised to reveal the whole journey at once, but He did promise to walk with us through each step.

There is peace that comes when we stop trying to control everything ahead and simply trust Him with today.

Todayโ€™s needs.
Todayโ€™s burdens.
Todayโ€™s faith.

And often, when we focus on walking closely with God today, we realize He is already preparing us for tomorrow in ways we cannot yet see.

You do not have to have your whole life figured out right now.
You only need to keep walking with Him one day at a time.
โ€œGive us this day our daily bread.โ€ โ€” Matthew 6:11

Prayer:
Lord, when my mind feels overwhelmed by the future, help me return to Your peace. Teach me to trust You with today instead of fearing tomorrow. Give me strength for this moment, wisdom for each step, and rest for my anxious heart. Remind me that Your grace is enough for every day and that I never walk alone. Amen.

While most people recover fully, extreme cases have resulted in serious heart failure or even death.

It's ok to not be ok my guys. I almost ki*led myself after the wars. Obviously didn't yet I almost did because we are all carriers of trauma & for years there was this BS undertow of "don't talk about it" culture in the military & that was deadly.

Thus I lay ye bare my soul without fear & show my own scars by example via letting you know you ain't alone and it's ok to not be ok. Give yourself the permission to get help. 5 tours, 13 of my best friends are gone, I was barely alive at the end of it all. Its ok to hurt, its ok to get help.
