This is why we show up.

He was not looking for us. He was at the gym, killing time, probably had somewhere else to be. He stopped at our table the way people stop when something catches their eye but they are not sure why yet.

I handed him HYDRATE.

He tried it, paused, and tried it again. That second sip is always the tell. That is the moment the skepticism starts losing the argument.

He asked what was in it. I told him. No sugar. No artificial dye. Real electrolytes, ocean minerals, amino acids. Everything your body actually needs and nothing it doesn’t. He picked up the bag and read the label himself the way people do when they want to verify that what you just said is actually true.

It was.

He bought two bags before he left the table.

That is the whole pitch. No celebrity endorsement. No paid placement. No algorithm. Just a real product in a real person’s hands and thirty seconds to let it speak for itself.

I have done hundreds of demos. That moment never gets old. The skeptic who becomes a believer not because I sold them but because the product earned it.

That is what we built Truwild for.

That guy is going to tell someone else. That person is going to tell someone else. That is how a real brand grows.

Most founders overcomplicate this.

They spend months in spreadsheets, focus groups, and strategy sessions trying to validate something that a stranger at a booth will tell you for free in half a minute. I know because I did it too. I overthought the launch, the positioning, the messaging, the funnel. I was so deep in the theory of it that I almost missed the simplest signal in the world.

Real people trying the product in real life.

The first time I handed Truwild to someone who had never heard of us and watched their face change I knew everything I needed to know. Not the polite nod. Not the “yeah that’s pretty good.” The genuine moment where skepticism disappears and the first question out of their mouth is where do I get this. That is product market fit. It does not need a spreadsheet. It needs a stranger and thirty seconds.

I started showing up everywhere I could put the product in real hands. Expos, gyms, farmers markets, parking lots after races. Every single rep taught me something. What made people stop. What made them stay. What question they always asked first. That feedback loop built the brand faster than any ad campaign I ever ran.

The best marketing in the world cannot fix a product that does not earn that moment. But when the product earns it you do not need to convince anyone of anything. They convince themselves.

Find your thirty seconds. Everything else gets easier after that.

Swim. Bike. Run. Hospital.

Last year, TRUWILD founder Zac Curhan took on his first Ironman 70.3 in Hawaii… and it didn’t go as planned.

After 6 months of training, countless hours on the bike, in the pool, and learning how to run distances he’d never attempted before, race day finally arrived.

Then Hawaii had other plans.

High winds turned the 1.2-mile swim into a shortened 750-meter sprint. On the bike, brutal 20-30 mph headwinds made every mile feel like pedaling backwards. Somewhere along the course, fuel was dropped, cramps set in, and survival mode kicked in.

But the views, the energy, and hearing friends and family cheering on the sidelines kept him moving forward.

Then came the run.

Both legs cramped. Heart rate climbed over 200 bpm. Mile after mile became a mental battle through the brutal Kona heat.

At mile 11, in the infamous Hells Kitchen section of the course, Zac collapsed from heatstroke before reaching the finish line.

For several hours afterward, he experienced memory loss and cognitive impairment severe enough that he didn’t know his own name, where he was, or who his parents were.

And before the comments roll in:
Yes, the founder of a hydration company still got heatstroke 😂
Ironically, his sodium levels were actually ABOVE normal range.

Sometimes the body just hits a limit.

While the race ended in a DNF, the experience became something bigger than finishing.

This wasn’t about medals or finish lines.
It was about pushing limits.
Facing failure publicly.
Finding out what happens when things stop going perfectly.

Because sometimes the moments that break you are the same ones that build you.

The result?
A new goal.
A new fire.
And unfinished business.

See you next year, Hawaii 🌺

Electrolytes are just sugar water.

I have been an athlete my entire life. I know what it feels like to wake up at 5am when your whole body is sore and drag yourself out of bed anyway. Because the process is the point.

For years I had one problem I could not solve. Every time I reached for something to stay hydrated mid session I ended up feeling worse. 40 grams of sugar. Artificial dye. A crash right in the middle of my workout. I was training like a professional and fueling like a gas station.

So I built what I could not find. Real electrolytes. Ocean minerals. Amino acids. No sugar. No junk. Made it for myself first because I just wanted to train hard and feel good the whole way through.

When I got the formula right everything changed. Recovery faster. No brain fog. Sharp from start to finish. I shared it with other athletes and the reaction was immediate. People said they finally felt like they could actually perform.

I refused to put garbage in the product to make it cheaper. That decision has defined everything.

When you build something because you genuinely needed it yourself the right people will find you.

Your 30s will define everything.

At 30 I thought I was behind. I looked around at people who seemed further ahead and spent more energy comparing than building. I was working hard but I was working scattered. Chasing ideas instead of going deep on one thing. Optimizing for looking successful instead of being useful. I had ambition but I did not yet have the patience to let something compound.

I started Truwild in my early 30s with no investors, no roadmap, and no guarantee it would work. Just a product I believed in and a refusal to go back to working for someone else. Some years were incredible. Some years I questioned everything. All of it was necessary.

Here is what I know now that I could not see then.

The thing that looks like an overnight success is always a five year story nobody watched. The boring repetitive work that feels like it is going nowhere is exactly where the brand gets built. Every email you send that gets no reply, every ad that does not convert, every product launch that lands quieter than you hoped is just tuition. You are not behind. You are just in the middle of the story.

Comparison is the fastest way to slow yourself down. The only scoreboard that matters is who you were last year. At 36 I can look back and see how every hard year was setting something up. I could not see it at 30. You cannot see it from inside it.

Build something real. Stay patient longer than feels reasonable. Do not let a slow month convince you that you chose wrong.

Your 30s are not too late. For most people they are just getting started.
