2025 was the first year I harvested honey from my beehives, and I realized that every prenatal, every birth, every postpartum appointment, every challenging situation that we resolve, every joy realized, is like a visit to a flower to collect pollen and nectar and then all of that is alchemized into wisdom. This will be my eighth year of practice as a midwife and I really do feel like I have something solid to offer from the accumulated wisdom of these experiences. I’m thinking a lot these days about the midwife I want to be. There’s an arc to peoples’ experience, from the first time we speak on the phone to the very last postpartum visit, and I’d rather companion and support and witness the shift into motherhood and fatherhood and parenthood for a few families a month than see a million people and do a million births. This year I’d like to see slower appointments that take the shape of walks around a park or tea at my kitchen table, and more conversations about what’s shifting in people’s lives as they become parents and allowing time and space for reflection. I’m seeking more sustainability in my own practice 🌸 Looking back, I’m deeply grateful to have accompanied all of my clients through joy and challenge, to the midwives I work alongside and from whom I’m always learning and growing with, and to the babies I greeted at the gates of life. Many thanks to the home birth midwives I work alongside, and to the nurse midwives who received our transfers (the stellar reviews we hear from our clients about your care at Jefferson in Washington Township and in Philly mean absolutely ✨everything✨ to us). Thank you to the doulas (shout out to .weinstein and for recent births where we absolutely were a solid team!) and to for essentially midwifing me through my own 15 week pregnancy loss. I’m so proud of my students and Adina Hoffman for finishing midwifery school and getting their CPMs, I never doubted either of you for a moment.
