I have a confession. I don't particularly enjoy drinking plain water.

At 70, I want the things I eat and drink to contribute something useful to my health whenever possible.

So I've developed something I call my Morning Meso Elixir™.

It starts with warm water.

Then I add six ingredients:

Collagen, creatine, BCAAs, fiber, myo-inositol, and electrolytes.

Each has a different purpose, from supporting muscle function to providing nutrients involved in healthy aging.

And the electrolytes give it flavor!

After 46 years of helping people improve their health, I've learned that a healthy routine needs to be something you actually enjoy.

But now I'm curious about YOUR morning routine.

Do you drink plain water, flavored water, or add something to make it more nutritious?

And if you add something, what is it?

I'm always interested in learning what other people are doing.

☕ Coffee or water first thing in the morning?

Most people think they know the answer.

Water, of course!

But after 46 years helping people optimize their weight and health, I have a different answer.

In today's Weigh Less · Age Less Substack article, Susan asks me the question that starts a surprisingly interesting conversation.

And by the end, she discovers why I don't necessarily ask people to give up the things they enjoy.

What's the FIRST thing you drink every morning? Coffee or water?

What if your morning coffee could help you weigh less and age less?

For years, people have blamed coffee for everything from dehydration to sleepless nights.

But the research tells a more interesting story.

Coffee contains hundreds of biologically active compounds, including antioxidants, and caffeine can temporarily increase energy expenditure.

Studies have also associated regular coffee consumption with several favorable long-term health outcomes.

But there's a catch.

How much you drink, when you drink it, and what you put in it can make a difference.

And for women struggling with weight loss after menopause, sleep quality is especially important.

Tomorrow, I'm exploring how to enjoy one of life's great pleasures without letting it work against your health.

How many cups of coffee do you drink each morning?

The scale isn't your enemy.
Misunderstanding what it tells you might be.
A pound gained overnight doesn't necessarily mean a pound of fat gained.
Water, hormones, digestion, and sleep can all influence tomorrow morning's number.
That's why I teach my clients to weigh daily and watch the trend, not panic over a single reading.
After 46 years, I've learned that information is far more useful than frustration.
Do you weigh yourself every morning, or have you been taught to avoid the scale?

What if the first 30 seconds of your morning could change how you experience the rest of your day?

Before I get out of bed, I practice something I call Five-Sense Awareness.

It helps me return to the present moment instead of starting my day worrying about yesterday or tomorrow.

At 70, I've learned that aging well isn't just about what we eat or how much we exercise. It's also about how we begin each day.

Here's one little habit I use every morning.

They told you NOT to weigh yourself every day.

I disagree.

After 46 years of helping people manage their weight, I've learned that the scale can be one of the most useful tools we have.

Not because the number tells us our worth.

Because it gives us information.

One morning's weight doesn't tell the whole story. Water retention, hormones, digestion, and sleep can all influence it.

But a pattern over time? That's worth paying attention to.

I wrote about this today because I believe we've taught too many women to fear a tool that could help them understand their bodies.

Do you weigh yourself every morning, occasionally, or avoid the scale altogether?

It's 2:00 AM.

You're wide awake. Again.

Tomorrow, you'll be tired, hungry, and wondering why losing weight seems harder than it used to.

Here's something I wish more women understood: sleep and weight regulation are connected.

Interrupted sleep can influence appetite, energy, insulin sensitivity, and the choices we make the following day.

And during menopause, hormonal changes can make a good night's sleep even more difficult.

I'm curious about something.

When you wake up in the middle of the night, is it usually around the same time? What time?

What happens to your cortisol when your eyes open in the morning?

At 70, the first thing I do every morning isn't reach for my phone, drink coffee, or even get out of bed.

I breathe.

After 46 years of helping people optimize their hormones, weight, and health, I've learned that how we begin our day matters.

In this video, I'll explain why cortisol isn't necessarily the enemy and demonstrate my Three-Six Breathing technique.

It's the first lesson in my new series, A Day in the Life of a Hormone and Weight-Loss Guru.
