🤱🏽 KNOW YOUR RIGHTS, RI BREASTFEEDING MAMAS! 💕

Did you know that Rhode Island law protects your right to breastfeed your baby in public?

Under R.I. General Laws § 23-13.5-1, a mother may feed her child by breast or bottle in any place open to the public. You do NOT have to leave simply because you are breastfeeding, and you should not be made to feel ashamed or uncomfortable for feeding your baby. 💗 (Rhode Island Legislature)

✨ And what about breastfeeding at work?

Rhode Island law also provides workplace protections for breastfeeding employees. Employers are required to make reasonable efforts to provide a private, secure, sanitary space that is NOT a bathroom for an employee to breastfeed or express breast milk. Reasonable break time may also be provided for pumping or breastfeeding. (Rhode Island Legislature)

💡 Remember:
• Your baby needs to eat — wherever you happen to be.
• Breastfeeding is not something you need to hide or apologize for.
• You have legal protections as a breastfeeding parent.
• A bathroom is NOT an appropriate place to require someone to pump or breastfeed.
• Supporting breastfeeding means supporting mothers and babies. 🤍

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that infants be exclusively breastfed for approximately the first six months of life. The AAP supports continued breastfeeding as long as desired by pare...

Prenatal Perineal Massage

Starting around 34–36 weeks of pregnancy, gentle perineal massage may help increase the flexibility of the perineal tissues, potentially reducing the risk of tearing during birth. Massage the area for 5–10 minutes, 3–4 times per week using clean hands and a water-based lubricant or natural oil.

External Cephalic Version (ECV): Pros & Cons

An ECV is a procedure used around 36–37 weeks to gently turn a breech baby into a head-down position.

✅ Pros:
• May help avoid a C-section
• Increases the chance of a vaginal birth
• Safe for most pregnancies when performed in a hospital
• Success rate: 50–60%

⚠️ Cons:
• Can be uncomfortable
• Doesn’t always work
• Rare risk of labor, bleeding, or an emergency C-section
• Baby may turn back to breech (uncommon)

Every pregnancy is unique. Talk with your provider about whether an ECV is a good option for you.

💗 Informed decisions lead to empowered births.
