💙 Meet Dr. Melissa Thompson, MD 💙

At Ivy Creek Hospice, compassionate care starts with compassionate people and Dr. Melissa Thompson is a wonderful example of that.

Dr. Thompson serves as the Medical Director for Ivy Creek Hospice, as well as Hospitalist at Elmore Community Hospital and Medical Director for the Ivy Creek Detox Unit. With 26 years of medical experience, she brings a wealth of knowledge, dedication, and heart to every patient she serves.

Her approach to care is simple but powerful:

“I try to treat any patient like I would want my family members to be treated.”

A graduate of the UAB School of Medicine, Dr. Thompson completed her Family Medicine Residency at the University of Wyoming in Cheyenne. Her passion for medicine began in childhood and was further inspired by a sixth-grade science teacher who sparked her love of science.

When she’s not caring for patients, Dr. Thompson enjoys growing cut flowers and searching for vintage china. In fact, her fun fact is that she hopes to become a professional flower farmer in her next season of life! 🌸

A patient may qualify when:

🌟 Hearts of Hospice: Abbey Strickland Jones 🌟

At Ivy Creek Hospice, our team members are the heart behind the care we provide, and this month we’re proud to spotlight Abbey Strickland Jones, Patient Care Manager.

Abbey began her journey with Ivy Creek Hospice as a case manager and admission nurse before stepping into her current leadership role in 2025. What she loves most about Ivy Creek is the family atmosphere, supportive coworkers, and the meaningful relationships built across every department.

One experience that reaffirmed her passion for hospice was returning to bedside care to help cover patient visits. That time reminded her just how special hospice is and how quickly patients become like family.

When she’s not caring for patients and supporting her team, Abbey enjoys spending time with her husband, four-year-old son, family, and friends. You can often find her outdoors, at the park, or enjoying summer weekends on beautiful Lake Martin.
