Improving Community Outcomes for Maternal and Child Health (ICO4MCH) is a multi-faceted, population-level maternal and child health initiative! ICO4MCH is located in Hoke County, Richmond County, Montgomery County and Scotland County local health departments. We specialize in educating the community and providers on reproductive health, breastfeeding and positive parenting. Our reproductive health education consist of educating the community and our providers on reproductive justice, health pregnancy, postpartum mental health, preventing pregnancy, nutrition, exercise, dental hygiene, and overall health and wellness when planning for a family or preventing pregnancy. Over the course of our 2 year funding cycle, we are continuing our efforts and focus on combating maternal mental health by providing the Mothers and Babies mood management course. It is 6-9 classes to help caregivers navigate their postpartum journey and the emotions that come in tow! Curious about how to manage those post-partum hormones through mood management? Our breastfeeding section handles all things breastfeeding whether we are helping a mother with a latch assessment, calming those postpartum nerves, or overall support. Here at ICO4MCH we have an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) that helps mothers in all aspects of their breastfeeding journey. Over the course of our funding cycle, we are continuing to aid with the work in our local health department WIC sections, as well as installing more public lactation spaces within our 4 county region. We have successfully implemented 65+ public lactation spaces in public school systems, industrial businesses, small businesses and faith-based organizations. If you work or own a business in our regional area and are interested in us implementing a public lactation space in your business, don't hesitate to reach out. Our funding will identify and outfit the space for your employees or patrons. The positive parenting program (Triple P) is a global initiative that is perfect for any and all caregivers of small children. Triple P helps caregivers with tips and tricks within their parenting journey to help navigate those big emotional moments that may consist of disagreements, talking back, physical emotions, and many more! Our team is diversely educated in the program and able to help in various age groups and settings. Interested in the program or being trained?

🤎🤎

October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month.

For the babies who were loved before they were ever held.

For the babies who were held, but not nearly long enough.

For the pregnancies that ended before there was a chance to announce them.

For the due dates that still live in someone’s heart.

For the names only a few people know.

For the tiny clothes that never got worn.

For the moms who had to walk out of an ultrasound room with their entire world changed.

For the parents who still wonder who their baby would’ve been.

And for every family carrying a grief that the rest of the world may not see

Your baby mattered.
Your love mattered.
Your loss matters.

This October, please be gentle. You never know whose heart is remembering a little life they would’ve given anything to keep!
