I am so touched by the immediate and generous support (link in bio if you want to contribute!) just 2 days into the challenge. Sometimes these causes seem unrelatable to our lives. This cause would have been for me three years ago, before I started volunteering. My experience talking to youth who reach out is so profound— almost each caller has something in common with the last—they are scared, vulnerable, facing rejection, already or imminently homeless, anxious, depressed….More and more since the election, callers share, often sobbing, that they just don’t understand why the world hates them. Calls post election went up 700%!!! Why IS this population so targeted? What have they done to anyone to generate such hate? On top of their already challenging lives they live feeling less than, not enough, lonely, sad and like me listening to them, heartbroken and bewildered. And yet, our hearts can be so big and expansive when we turn towards others with intention—as evidenced by these fundraisers. But more than donating money, I urge us all to donate time to understanding another person who has a life experience different from our own. Donate your time and open your heart to someone or a group that is unfamiliar to you. It won’t take long for you to see we are all connected and all want and deserve the same thing— to love freely, to be loved, to be safe from harm, to be free and healthy, and to live this one life as we wish. Our hearts were made for this. 🏳️🌈❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
